Welcome  Welcome!  If you are considering using high tech gender selection to make your dream of having a son or a daughter come true, you've found the right place!  Here is some basic information to get you started. Please start here and we'll be happy to answer any questions!

  • Confused by all the acronyms?  See the Abbreviations list.  (You can find this list under Help, above.)

  • X sperm make girls, Y sperm make boys!  To learn about how sex is determined at the time of conception, see Conception Education for all the facts about sperm and eggs.

  • MicroSort: MicroSort sperm sorting is the only technique proven to separate X and Y sperm.  It is about 92% effective for a girl, and about 81% effective for a boy.  Around 1,000 babies have been born using MicroSort.  Because MicroSort is currently in clinical trial as part of the FDA approval process, the availability of MicroSort is limited and there is a waiting list.

Cost: The MicroSort sorting procedure is $3,400, plus the cost of IUI or IVF, and you will probably need multiple attempts to get pregnant.  You must pay for each attempt, even if you do not get pregnant.

  • PGD: PGD is the process of testing embryos to determine if they are male or female before they are implanted in the mother's womb.  PGD is virtually 100% effective for choosing gender.  In the U.S., about 50% of PGD clinics will perform PGD for the purpose of family balancing.

Cost: The cost of PGD is $3,000 to $5,000, plus the cost of IVF.  The cost of IVF varies widely, but in the U.S. you should expect to pay $12,000 to $15,000 per attempt, and you will probably need multiple attempts to get pregnant.  Unless you are diagnosed as infertile, health insurance will not cover your IVF.

  • MicroSort + PGD.  MicroSort and PGD may be combined in a cycle to make sure that most embryos are of the desired gender.  Click here for a full explanation.
