Re: folic acid may not be as safe as we thought - WARNING

K-dogg, thanks for the info! But wondering if they mean extra folic acid in pregnancy, or folic acid in prenatals in general?
It was for 800mcg of folic acid total.
oh ok.....it's only 400 that's recommended in pregnancy, right? i just took whatever was in prenatal when pg
It's ...

Re: Going for abstinance and then a cut off??

I really don't think you should change. One time BD with a 1.5 day cut-off is (in my opinion) perfect boy timing. If you are closer to a 2 day cut-off, that is good for a girl, but unless you are absolutely sure about when you will ovulate (and I know you've said you aren't), I think it is really dangerous. You run the risk of having perfect boy timing. According to my study, the best timing for a...

Re: does anyone else ov on the same day they get a +OPK?

Lately I've been ovulating about 6 hours after a positive OPK. One cycle I didn't get a positive OPK until AFTER I had ovulated.

Re: why is it boy territory if you wait any longer than O+12?
Is anytime after O girl territory.  For example if I bd'd at O+16-20 would it still be girl territory, even though I know it would be harder to get pg? The reason I ask is because I got a -OPK at midnight on Saturday and my cervix and cm had changed.  So if I count 12 hours from this time it would be the middle of the day which wouldn't be ideal for bd so if ...

Re: link for those who claim there is no scientific evidence for swaying.
So if my second finger is longer than my fourth, what does that mean? Sorry, stats was not my strong suit.
I think (after briefly looking over the article Kristin posted) that women tend to have a longer index finger than ring finger, and men tend to have a longer ring finger than index finger. This is because of exposure to hormones (testosterone?) ...

Re: why is it boy territory if you wait any longer than O+12?

If you BD 12 hours after ovulation (O+12), that is GIRL territory. If you BD less than 12 hours after ovulation, that sways boy.

Re: GD article in my local newspaper

What a nice article!
It's a good article but I don't understand why she thinks she can't make a scrapbook for a boy as well as a girl - that's silly.
I think she meant someone to scrapbook WITH. Scrapbooking is more often a hobby for girls than boys.

Re: Anyone else getting annoyed with their ph tester!! I could scream!

Well, I think the ratio is SUPPOSED to be 2:1. But I had a 2:1 ratio and had LIS, and then the LIS went away when I switched to a 4:1 ratio. So if you have a 2:1 ratio now, try switching to 4:1 and see if that helps. (Those amounts are close to what I'm taking, though I think mine is a little higher since there is extra calcium in my prenatal.)

Re: Anyone else getting annoyed with their ph tester!! I could scream!
I really want to get hold of the colorphast strips but they aren't available in the UK and I can't find anywhere that will ship them here! I guess I'll have to perservere with the tester and also use my phion strips too :(
Oh, that's too bad. :(  I hope you can figure out your tester then.

Re: Anyone else getting annoyed with their ph tester!! I could scream!

No, you have to fix the LIS first. :(  I had LIS when I first started testing and couldn't use the Colorphast strips. Then I went from a 2:1 cal/mag ratio to 4:1 and that took care of the LIS.

Re: Anyone else getting annoyed with their ph tester!! I could scream!

I hated my Hanna. HATED, HATED, HATED it! I was able to test dh's ph with it, but otherwise it was totally useless. It would never give the same result twice, and took forever to come up with a number - I totally didn't trust it at all. Yours sounds worse, though, as mine would give stable readings on things I had a large amount of. It just wouldn't read cm accurately. Maybe call the manufacturer?...

Re: Innocent or insulting?

When dd was a baby, I probably joked about how she was great bc and I was never going to have another one. She was a horrible sleeper and that made much of her first year a nightmare. But I really like little girls and want another one, so it's not like any comments I made about how hard my dd was had anything to do with girls in general. It was just a reflection of my stress over dealin...

Starting a ph study - volunteers needed!

One of the things that I've been really interested in since I first learned about swaying is ph. It makes a lot of sense to me that low ph would favor girls and high ph would favor boys. But how much does ph sway? Is it more effective than timing? Less effective? And if your ph is in a specific range (4-5, 6-7, or 8-9, say), how does that specific ph sway? Unfortunately, ph doesn't appear on FF c...

Re: Gender Swaying... do you feel it really works?
On this note, I just want to say that my first u/s was wrong and I thought I was expecting DD #3 despite a pretty great sway. I was disappointed of course, but when someone posted they think it's 'dumb luck' meaning that people who sway are 'dumb' enough to believe in it, I really took offense to that. I didn't stop believing in swaying just because it didn't w...

Re: BD'ing every other day for conceiving a girl?

When I looked at charts in my timing study, I found that BD every other day actually doesn't sway. The results overall were 50/50. Now, there were some methods of every other day BD that did sway: if there was a 2 or 3 day cut-off, more girls resulted, and if the every other day BD included ovulation, more boys resulted. This is the post I made on my blog about it: http://www.ingender.com/cs/blog...

Re: If you're naturally acidic, what's your pH?

My ph isn't super acidic, but it seems to naturally be on the lower end (4.5-5.5 most of the time). I don't know what it was for sure when I conceived dd because the ph strips I hadn't weren't that great, but the strips usually turned yellowish when I tested. Ph isn't everything - I highly doubt it's anywhere close to 100% effective. And 5.5 is a lower ph, but still isn't in the ideal girl range ...

Re: Is this chart right for you?

It was right for my dd and my sister, but wrong for my brother and me. So 50/50.

Re: what is best time to ttc boy?

When I did my study on FF charts, I found that BD one time the day before O had the highest rate of boys. I think one time on ovulation is good too, but the statistics were a little lower for it (possibly because some charts with one time BD on O were really O+12 charts). Also, I think with timing for a boy, you are supposed to aim to abstain 4-5 days to maximize the number of boy sperm. So ...

Re: Is an OPK ever positive on O day?

Yup, you can get a positive on O day! Lately, I haven't been a getting a positive until about 6 hours or so before ovulation. Last cycle, I didn't get a true positive until AFTER I ovulated. Usually, I think you will get a positive the day before, but that isn't always going to be the case.

Re: Very low cervix

Where are you in your cycle? My cervix gets ultra low shortly before AF, but most of the rest of the time it is higher. Your cervix changes position throughout your cycle, so unless you notice that it is constantly super low (as in every day AF to AF), I wouldn't worry. It's normal for it to sometimes be really low, sometimes to be medium and sometimes to be high.

Blog Post: How does BD 2 times sway?

So far, I've looked at how 1 BD time, 3 BD times, and 4+ BD times sway, so I figured it was time to look at how 2 BD times sway as well. :) There were 72 boy charts and 65 girl charts, resulting in a preference for boys of 52.6%. This is the breakdown of the charts.- 2 non-consecutive times including ovulation: 13 boy charts, 11 girl charts (sways boy 54.2%...

Re: To those out there who still believe in the effectiveness of swaying

I believe in swaying, and I think it MIGHT be as much as 75-80% effective with a really good sway. But even 80% is a far cry from 100%. I don't think swaying is a guarantee of anything, it just increases your odds of getting your desired gender. If you want moral support about swaying, it's probably better not to post about how confident you feel about swaying on the GD board. A lot of peopl...
