I liked this quote from Dr. Trivers (from Kristindoggirl's link):
"It is commonly believed that whether parents conceive a boy or a girl is entirely up to chance. Close enough, but not quite. It is largely up to chance, but there are factors that very subtly influence the sex of an offspring."
Always important to remember that we're just swaying, and chance is always going to play a...

This poll might need to go to the pregnancy forum?!

Ditto....I think that although a lot of women here have kids already, many are trying out swaying for the first time, and thus don't know if it worked yet.

Here is an article from NY Times about his work that kind of summarizes his findings (my big question is this: HOW DID HE MEASURE "ATTRACTIVENESS"? Is it just *his* opinion??)
Why Do Beautiful Women Sometimes Marry Unattractive Men?
By Stephen J. Dubner
It may be that the unattractive man has a lot of money, or some other compelling attribute.
But a new study by Satoshi Kanazaw...

Since I just got the magazine in the mail, the article is not online yet. It's in the October 2009 issue of Psychology Today. It's titled "A Chip Off The Best Block" and the author is Satoshi Kanazawa, Phd.
EDITED TO ADD: I googled the author's name, he's written a book called "Why Beautiful People Have More Daughters"

Like all these studies, it's not 100% of course. Obviously, many (most) people have a mix of genders. I think the author is just suggesting that if you & hubby have some "male factors" and have 10 kids, 6 will be boys and 4 will be girls. Know what I mean?

There is an article in the new Psychology Today (October 2009 - I don't think it's on the newstand yet, I have a subscription and just got it in the mail today) about sex ratio. The author of the article extended the Trivers-Willard hypothesis to include many more traits. Basically, the hypothesis is that if parents have ANY trait that would be exceptionally good to pass on to a girl, they'll have...

There is someone on here with 2 or 3 preseed girls! Also, on the preseed website, they have a user survey and more women that reported gender reported having girls rather than boys. HOWEVER, something like 30% didn't report the gender.
The reality is, YES it sways blue. However, SWAY is just a sway, not a sure thing. You *could* definitely still get a girl using preseed, and of course you'd...

Kristin - I thought the SAME THING when I read this blog post on Fertility Friend the other day! It seems so counterintuitive. If most women's waking bbt dip in July, and July is a 'girl month', then LOW temps should = girl month, but that's not what we say on here....
Perhaps when determining if we're having a "low" or "high' temp month (which I think has to do with hormones, no?)...

im taking it now (haven't conceived ANYTHING yet, grr). I was just going to say, it's a fairly "new" recommendation (at least for dw), so there may not be many people who took it, conceived, and are >18 wks yet.

I should also add, I was thinking about ordering Ov-Watch instead of the CBEFM. I saw a segment about it on "The Doctors" (<--lol) and they highly recommended it.

I tried clearblue digital opks a few cycles ago (the smiley face ones) because I had heard that you could use first morning urine with them, which seemed convenient. So, I tested every morning and never got a smiley, but I had EWCM, a clear, large, and sustained thermal shift on day 20, then my period on day 31, so I do believe I ovulated despite never getting a + digital opk.
I wanted to ...

I just dropped SP. It delayed my O, gave me my longest cycle to date, and (for the first time ever) I never got a positive opk (I got a thermal shift though). Wish I never took it. My body appears to be extra sensitive to this stuff.

I believe in swaying or I wouldn't be here (and I wouldn't be trying it). That said, just think of the word "sway" itself. A sway is a gentle, subtle movement in one direction. That's all we're doing. Giving our bodies a small nudge in one direction.

I can't pick just one! It's a tie between WINE, TOMATOES, and POTATOES. The day I get my BFP, I'm eating tomato pot roast, with roasted potatoes on the side. mmmmmmmmmm.

I've said this before but it bears repeating: Just because you (or someone you know) does not conform to the hypothesis does not make it "not true." We all know people who eat a lot of breakfast cereal and have girls, right? There are many women on here who swayed HARD and still didn't get their desired gender. We still believe in swaying, though.
There are people who smoke until they're 80...

I also think her comment sounds like she was *trying* to be supportive. You're the one that knows her best, though.
I agree that deleting her comment would get your message across. A snarky comeback will just make you look bad. GL.

I was under the impression that stretchiness is indeed a indicator of fertile quality. I don't think arounsal fluid or normal "wetness" down there is supposed to stretch at all. So, if you're always pretty wet down there, I'd say the stretch factor is a good indicator of EWCM.
You could confirm this with charting and/or OPKs. Do you use either?

Thanks for the input, gals. I don't (really) mind the lengthening of my cycle if were to be consistent. However, it was the short LP (and *iffy* ovulation) that has me worried.

*Note: I'm optimistically thinking ahead to my potential BFP My Vitex pills are powder-filled capsules, so I can't really split them in half or quarter them. For weaning purposes, is it ok to just start taking them every other day, then every third day, and so on and so on?

I realize saw palmetto is one of the "newer" supplements that people are trying. I've been using it for one half cycle (started it halfway through) and one full cycle. My first full cycle (which just ended) on the SP was the longest cycle I've ever had, I ovulated late (CD30) and my LP was a measly 8 days (compared to my normal 14 or 15 days). In fact, FF only gave me dotted CHs, so I'm skeptical ...

With allergy season upon us, I've been sleeping with my mouth open more and more. Not surprisingly, my temps have been more erratic this past month. I'd like to try temping vaginally and i'm wondering how far up to insert my bbt? Just far enough so the metal tip is fully inserted or further?
Any help would be appreciated [worried]
