Re: Devoted IG girls who know who didn't get pregnant using GSN

I don't remember exactly, though the list Michaela posts sounds about right.  I do know that at one point someone asked whether anyone who got BFNs after GSN had transferred a blast and I believe the answer was no, that metabolically less-strong embies (morulas, for example, on day 5) were what were transferred.  It goes to show that you need an embie that is both chromosomally normal AN...
I agree, not cool at all.  Before you cycle you sign a waiver granting them permission to access your OB and peditrician medical files.
Yeah, but you don't have to fill in any of the particulars (name of OB/Pediatrician, address, etc.) - at least I didn't!  I just signed the form and they said I could give them the details later.  I actually...

Re: GSN information wanted

Dr. Potter posted a highly scientific article back in early 2010 (or was it late 2009).  I've done some searching but can't seem to find it.  Maybe someone else knows where to look . . .

Re: GSN vs 2 Probe PGD

At least for me, I never felt pushed to do GSN.  Dr. Potter was very objective about all of my options and left the decision up to me (as he did a few other decisions I had to make along the way - he is very good like that).  I did my research and both DH and I felt very comfortable that this was what we wanted to do.  This was in part because we felt strongly about doing an S...

Re: HRC Travel Info

That's great you found a drop in place! I wish I had known about that when I was out there!  I only had one monitoring appt, but it was after 9am.  Shouldn't be a problem I'd think. Good luck!

I could not have said this any better. My feelings exactly.

Re: Line the same 2 days later...

Here are my SET 6 and 7 dpt pics.  I didn't save the 8 and 9.  http://www.ingender.com/cs/forums/t/171656.aspxI think your 9dpt line is definitely more defined.  I think it's looking good! I know the waiting and wondering is killer.

Re: GSN vs 2 Probe PGD

GSN. Sure 2 probe is fine at your age, but why not skip past the potential BFN and get to the embie(s) that will actually make babies. The idea of self correction is getting way overblown on this site in my opinion.

Re: Line the same 2 days later...

I wouldn't worry too much about the darkness of the line at this point - it is dependent on so many things (like how much water you drank today versus the other day, etc.).  And mine was still very light at 9dp5dt.  I didn't get a good solid dark line for at least another week.  Try to stay positive . . . you've made it through so much so far.  My fingers are crossed for a stro...

Re: Pros and cons of 5 probe

Hi Grits - just noticed this in my notes from my GSN consult:For 85% of embryos tested, the confidence level has been 99% or higher. Also from my notes on self-correction - I thought this was really interesting given the current discussion:The likelihood of mosaicism depends on whether the "abnormal" comes from the mother's DNA or the father's DNA, which GSN detects through the parental s...

Re: Pros and cons of 5 probe

Regarding re-testing:  this is from my notes (which are typed out in my blog):For embryos that are "no results" or that are "abnormal - not compatible with life" GSN will re-test FOR FREE a second biopsy of the embryo done on day 5, if your clinic's embryologist says the embryo is growing well and he/she recommends re-testing.  You would have to pay any biopsy fees cha...

Re: Pros and cons of 5 probe

Can a person opt to have all embies biopsied on day 5 and saved for FET?  Is this considered a stupid thing to do?
I was wondering the same thing eventhough they would be considered abnormal. Has anyone ever saved the abnormal ones and retested them when doing their FET?
Well, Im wond...

Re: Pros and cons of 5 probe

I know it is mind numbing all the info out there!  With GSN they biopsy on day 3 and you can transfer on day 5.I just edited my prior response to your question about number of embies to put back - needed to clarify one thing.

Re: Pros and cons of 5 probe

Just 2 - putting back 3 GSN perfect embies could definitely result in triplets! ETA:  I posted too soon and ran away.  I should have clarified that my answer above would be if we're talking about blasts.  So far on IG to my knowledge every GSN blast that has been put back has resulted in a pregnancy - including a twin pg with 2 blasts put back.  The only GSN embies ...

Re: Pros and cons of 5 probe
I had my phone consult the other day with reprogenetics. I was on the phone for over an hour. She was very helpful and explained everything very easily. I'm not sure what gsn is, I'm assuming another type of company that offers chromosome testing on the embryos. What they have is a test called acgh ( microarray) it test for all 24 chromosomes. What they told me was the accuracy f...

Re: Pros and cons of 5 probe

That is a good question.  So far with GSN we have had very few no transfers, despite all the talk about it and the speculation that it would be very likely.  The only one I can think of is luv4boys, but she also was a mature mama at 40 so a bit tougher situation.  But - - a bunch of us who did GSN and had transfers also had MS to help out.  But not all.  We should re...

Re: what to do with the kids?

we did this too. Poor DH never met the doc, wasn't there to hold my hand before and after ER, and we had to discuss our results over the phone the morning of ET. But we wanted to keep this all a secret and were thousands of miles from home so you do what you gotta do!

Re: Pros and cons of 5 probe

My best looking blast had multiple abnormalities, so it is not always apparent by the metabolic health of the embie. If you do anything less than 24 chromosome testing, you could put back an abnormal embie. My opinion is that is why we see so many singleton babies when ladies who do 2 or 5 probe transfer 2 or more blasts. If I had done 5 probe and put back my two best looking "normal" blasts one w...

Re: Self Correction Possibilities

keep in mind this is not just a given. I would discuss it with your RE before you cycle and see what his/her criteria would be to rebiopsy and retest. You may want it for all but they may not feel it's worth it, so I would be sure to have a clear understanding ahead of time. I felt very ill prepared on ET day and wished that I had discussed this in advance with my RE so I would not have been as f...

Re: Pros and cons of 5 probe

Before GSN existed I had planned to use 5 probe. Only downside I know of is a higher false positive rate. It is 10% false positive rate per probe, so the more probes the higher the chance of calling an embie abnormal when it really isn't. With GSN the false positive rate is 1% (per probe I assume but not certain). So with both there is always a chance you discard healthy embies after thinking they...

AWESOME!!!  Congrats!!!!!  You're pregnant with your little girl! You did an SET with a GSN embie - right?  GSN Rocks!

Re: Self Correction Possibilities

Who would/could do that ?
During my GSN consult I was told that If there were no normals I could consider (with my RE's advice and taking into consideration the metabolic health of the embryo)transferring an embryo that fell into the category of abnormal but that would not produce a live birth (if any existed). The idea being that if the embryo did not self correct it would not re...

Re: Feedback Requested on Fertility-Institutes (Dr. Jeffrey Steinberg)

There was a girl not long ago who travelled from abroad and went there. She was a OHW (one hit wonder - pg on first attempt). I can't remember her username but you could try finding her posts and PM her. Good luck! I would hate to lose all that money. Unfortunately no clinic can guarantee success, so switching may or may not make a difference (you could still be successful with Fertility Inst o...
