Re: Does anyone use African style baby carrying?

Hi! I am also in Australia and learnt how to tie my children on my back whilst in South Africa. My husband was carried on the family maids back as a baby and she then taught me how to do it! Anyway, it was a lifesaver and I found it easier on my back. My second son was extra grumpy when I needed to cook dinner and by having him on my BACK it was safe to keep cooking (as opposed to how unsafe it wo...

Re: Proud moment for me

Thankyou for sharing, I love hearing stories like yours. My eldest is just starting to get protective of his little brother and it is so sweet to watch. I can only imagine how much better it gets as they get older.

Re: People are really starting to bother me...

Oh I HATE stuff like that!!! It gets me sooooo angry too. My DS2 is also 16 months and in my opinion 'normal' however he's not doing any alphabet singing! I think that woman is just a teensy bit full of herself. I have decided that when people have huge insecurities they have to overemphasize how wonderful their life/children are. I highly doubt her child can do many of those things. I once taught...

Re: Has anyone been upset by other peoples lack of attention or interest in your 2nd or subsequent child of the same gender??

I can't believe this is so common, what is wrong with people!!! I felt this too with my second son. I have a 'friend' who gave me an obviously second hand outfit when DS2 was born and she said "Oh I washed it for you" as if to explain why it had no tags on it. Then she turned up for DS2 first birthday party an hour late with no birthday present! Then when she recently had her second child she actu...

Re: Nothing new, but...

Oh that is so crappy. I HATE it when a friend has a DD, it makes you feel ten times worse. I don't have any advice, just that I know that feeling. I really hope you feel better soon. I find it hard to believe that I won't feel like this forever but I'm sure we will both get there in the end. Sending you hugs.

Re: Boys and Asperger's Syndrome...

I really feel for you, it must be so stressful for you right now. In my years as a teacher I taught three different boys with aspergers and they were absolutely delightful and I loved teaching them. All three had been diagnosed early and were receiving all the support they needed. They will all be full functioning members of society and will most definitely go into some sort of training when leavi...

Re: Is it other people's comments that make GD worse?

This post makes me feel soooooo angry, thinking of all the stupid things people say to me and all you other Mummies out there. Why can't people say something nice and positive!! I am hating it right now as Im 13 weeks and people say EVERY SINGLE DAY "I bet you're hoping for a girl". So I now have a comeback that has been shutting them up. I say "Well I love having two boys because they are so clo...

Re: ? about Zoloft and weight gain

Hi! I have been on Zoloft for many years now and have not had any problems with weight gain. There have been no side effects that i am aware of. It has been a lifesaver for me with two bouts of PND. Good luck to your friend.

Re: How do you organise your kids toys?

Actually that's part of my problem I just realised! I tried to do the toy rotation thing only they found the hidden toys and I forgot to put some away!

Re: If you could add one room onto your house, what would you want?

Can I say a room for a live in cleaner/cook or is that not counted? Because THAT would be awesome!!!!

How do you organise your kids toys?

Hi guys! I'm just curious as to what other people do to keep their kids toys organised. I am pretty on top of ours but I keep thinking their must be better ways than this! All the toys are in the boys' corner of our open plan living area. They have one of those large car mats. Then I have put all the toys in tubs around the edge. All the wooden blocks in one, all the train sets in another, all the...

Re: What is a natural hospital birth like?

Both my labours have been natural hospital births and under two hours. I don't know anything else but I would strongly recommend natural. Yes it does hurt, a lot, BUT you are so focused on how close your contractions are getting you to the pushing stage that you don't care. And once the pushing part comes you barely feel the pain because you are so focused on your pushes and the fact that you are ...

Re: Is this anyone's last baby?

Just found out I am now a part of the due in Jan 2011 group! However I have NO IDEA when I am due as my periods are so irregular. I will hopefully know soon when I have the ultrasound to estimate dates. Anyway, yes this is most definitely my last and hopefully my much wanted DD. There is no way I can handle another pregnancy or more than three kids. The two I have are already more than enough!! I ...

Re: What a surprise!!

Thankyou for the congratulations guys!!! Most of the time I think boy boy boy boy. But then that little tiny voice in my head reminds me that just maybe its a girl.....I really wish there was a test you could do right now to find out! Yes FX we both hear pink! xo

Re: Am I just being daft?

No you're not being a meanie! I would be uncomfortable in that situation too. When we were kids my parents allowed a poor little neglected girl to hang out at our farm (her parents were renting a house on the farm next door). Well what started out as a nice friendship became really difficult and she never wanted to leave. We liked her but didn't like her hanging around all day every day. It was so...

Re: What a surprise!!

Thankyou lovely ladies for your congratulations. We haven't told anyone irl yet so it is wonderful to be able to share it here with you all. Bananarepublic that is exactly what I need to do! Think about the cute little newborn I will be having, not what gender it will be. At least this pregnancy I am more prepared to deal with negative gender comments now that I have been in IG for a little while....

Re: Anyone raise bilingual children?

Hi! I have done heaps of research on this and also spoken to two speech therapists as I was so afraid of confusing my children!!! From my experience the BEST way is the OPOL method which stands for One Parent One Language. So Dh speaks his language to the boys and I speak English. It is very important that you do not cross back and forth and mix it up as this confuses the kids. Initially it does s...

What a surprise!!

Well DH and I were not supposed to be ttc just yet but it happened and I found out three days ago I'm pregnant!!! I am still feeling quite shocked as I kept thinking I was feeling a bit funny because I was coming down with something. I have no idea how far I am as my periods are very irregular. I will have to get to the doctor and have an ultrasound to estimate dates. The first thing my husband sa...

Yep i do wonder that too! One of our sons looks just like DH and the other is the male version of me. All four of us are blonde with blue eyes. It has occured to me that we could have a daughter and she will look TOTALLY different. It is a funny thought. Hopefully I wil get a DD next and I can see for myself!!

Re: Those with little ones at home

Oh my goodness this is my son too! He was 2 yrs 2 months when DS2 was born and it was tricky for a while. However he eventually understood that we could have lots of hugs and time together when the baby was asleep. Can you believe though, he STILL creeps into our bed at night. meanwhile his 13mo brother sleeps perfectly in his cot all night!!! Good luck with your little guy, I'm sure he wi...

Re: Toddler Outdoor Activites

Most of the things I do outside with my sons have been mentioned already but here are a couple extra's.Give them a big paintbrush and a little bucket of water. My son loves to 'paint' the house, fence, his toys. Its not messy, cheap and they think its fun! We collect bugs and make them a little house in a container. Its fun to look for beetles or snails and then watch them. Also we are big on the ...

Re: Worrying Situation - What would you do?

Thankyou all so much for your support and advice, you have helped me think clearly. I have made plans to ctach up with just the Mother tomorrow so that I can talk to her about getting her son help. I am NOT looking forward to talking about this but everything you guys have said has made me realise I really don't have a choice. For the sake of this little boy, his younger brother and their soon to ...
