Cabbage Test To Determine Gender?

 Has anyone ever heard this or tried it?and was it accurate? Just curious.

Buy a head of red cabbage and cut up about 2 cups worth. Put into a bowl or glass container (whatever you have I guess) and pour boiling water over it, enough to cover it and allow it to sit for 10 minutes or until the color leaches out of the cabbage. Filter out the cabbage and discard (or use for cooking purposes if you want!) Pour some of the cabbage "juice" into a glass so you can see the color. Now add your urine until it changes color. If it stays a purple-ish shade, it's a girl. If it turns red-ish, it's a boy

Sounds interesting... I heard something like this with Drano.

 never heard of it but I think I will pick up some cabbage next time I am grocery shopping :)

Its a pH test:

Acid turns cabbage redish, Alkaline turns cabbage purple. 

I did it a few days ago and the water went dalk blue! Not sure what that means but OH tried it and his went bright pink. I only have 5 weeks to find out!

Interesting. It sounds safer than the Drano test. Wouldn't the ph of your urine depend on your diet though?

Just found out we are having a boy :D So the pink for a boy was wrong for me, although the water went blue not purple...

That's exactly what I was thinking....wouldn't it depend on what your current diet is like?

Well after reading up an cabbage water and PH, it seems that alkaline would give a more blue colour and acid a more red colour. I also read that when carrying a girl the ph down there is more acid and for a boy more alkaline this would mean that the test for me was actually accurate if i took it that way and not the old wives tale way of pink for girl purple for boy. I would like to see some more results and i have seen a few on line for who it was also an opposite result to the OWT.
