What was your all-time favorite toy growing up?
|
|
and what was the one toy that you always really wanted, but never got?
I'll start....my all time favorite toy was my big wheel. The toy I always wanted but never got was a "baby brother doll." If I recall correctly, it was supposed to be anatomically correct...maybe that is why I never got it!

My favorite toy was a stuffed pig I named Petunia. She is still living in my closet with her pig friend Penelope.
What I always wanted, but never got... one of those Snoopy shaved ice machines. Mmmm... snowcones. Maybe I should ask for one this Christmas!

My all time favourite was my 'Charmkins House'. I just HAD to have it (as my mother recalls). In fact, my sister and I wanted one so badly, my mum bought us one each! The house opened up like a book and inside was lots of little bits of tiny furniture. You could also add bits like a garden set etc. Arrrrhhh the memories..............

I loved the Fisher Price Little People sets - I had the neighborhood, the house, and the rv. What I never got was, more Fisher Price Little People sets - I wanted the airport, the school, the playground, the farm...basically I just wanted all of them. I would've played with them too, I got so much good out of those things. I played with them until I was like 12 years old, I had them be babies for my Barbie dolls - Barbie had such big boobs she simply had to be breastfeeding Little People quadruplets.
I wish they still made them, I think the new Fisher Price stuff is soulless and awful! (not that I'm being melodramatic or anything...)

I always wanted a Power Wheels like Sarah. Never got one. I was flabbergasted when dh came home with one from ToysRUs when ds1 was two. I always thought it would be one of those toys I never got, so my kids wouldn't get one either; too extravagent. But, he loved it and ds2 is enjoying it now, too.

I received this Strawberry Shortcake stroller (shaped like a strawberry) AND a matching outfit for me to wear one Christmas. I took it very seriously and pushed that stroller up and down the block all day, wearing the little vinyl hat and apron -- some of my favorite photos I tried to find a picture on the web, and found this amazing collection that someone has http://winona1124.tripod.com/id6.html
Oh, and the year I received a REAL dollhouse (wood, hand-painted and wall-papered by my mom!) was the best. The "Sylvanian Bears" were my family for the house and I babied them every day!
I always wanted an EZ bake oven that worked. My sister, who is 10 years older, gave me her old broken one and so I never really "baked" food in it

Okay, the aforementioned doll house was destroyed in a move (I still have the furniture though!) so I periodically look on eBay for something similar. THIS house that I found is a true DREAM doll house! It's wired for electricity and everything, so I just had to share the link with you ladies: http://cgi.ebay.com/VICTORIAN-CUSTOM-FINISHED-DOLLHOUSE-NEW_W0QQitemZ220306193909QQcmdZViewItemQQptZDolls?hash=item220306193909&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1240%7C66%3A4%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1307
Imagine finding that under your tree? $$$$

Oh my God! I had a Strawberry Shortcake stroller (it was green plastic with a strawberry top) too -- I totally forgot until now! I'd push my stuffed animals in it. And -- and! -- I had Sylvanian Bears too -- I had a Bunny family and a Bear family. Moreover, I have them and their house in a box in my basement... too bad I don't have a daughter!
We so had the same toys!

...Hot Wheels Need I say more? What I really wanted but never got...I'm not sure, really. I was thankful for what I had as a child, I guess maybe I might have wanted more legos or magnets so I could actually build more with them and didn't have to tear my creations apart? I also played with barbies (not as much) and water babies (loved those)... I would go around playing house and carring those babies wrapped in blankets and stuff everywhere. I didn't have much, so I used what I had and my imagination. From my bunkbed (sister and I shared it) I would tie sheets and make hanging beds and we'd lay in them/my dolls would lay in them, and we'd make forts for houses and use different parts of the house/front room as our homes and stuff...for the cars I would go outside with a broom and start sweeping "roads" into the back yard (it was all dirt) and them make mounds of dirt and even make mudd and build underground tunnels in them and stuff.

One of my favorite gifts was something my Mom put together for me and I am even considering doing the same for my son this year...she bought one of those cardboard boxes (that you fold into shape) and she filled it up with construction paper of all colors, scissors, glitter, glue, little stars...all sorts of stuff like that...and I LOVED it....
My second favorite gift was my dollhouse...I still have it.(it's at my Dad's) .My Mom put little peices of carpet in it and put wallpaper in it...we would go shopping together when I had birthday money to spend and buy little things for it...that created very special memories for me..
When I am lucky enough to have a DD of my own...she will get the dollhouse to play with.
One thing I never got but wanted was one of those Barbie heads that you could fix her hair and put makeup on...my cousin had one so I played with hers..
