well i just wanted to know (it might be a bit personal) how did you or are you going to spend your baby bonus?

for those not from aust we get $5000 for each child when they are born i got $780 for my 1st DD $3200 2nd DD $4200 3rd DD now it has gone up to $5000

well when i get preg if this baby is a boy i will def need clothes and some boys toys then i will put some away in a savings fund BUT if its a girl i will put most away in a savings fund for her and the rest i will pay bills with, some people get angry at this and think it should be used for the baby but i am just thinking if i can get debts out of the way it will put more food on the table for my family, what is your opinion about this? (i wont get offended)

then we have people like my mil oh you shouldnt get nothing i got nothing when my children were born you are just taking our tax money!!!!!

Well that is true she didnt get anything and i do think we are all very very lucky but with the rising costs of families it does help i disagee with the few teenagers just getting pregnant for the money, what are your opinions on this?

I just got mine yesterday, but havent fully decided. If I could buy some bottled sleep, that would be a good start! lol

I was told that as of 2009 the $5,000 will be done as fortnightly payments, not a lump sum?!? I really hope it is not true though because I know I’ll just waste it if I get it each fortnight!! Were as a lump sum I will transfer it straight into my sons private school fees account. That way school fees are taken care of for a couple of years. That is what I did with ds#2 $3,000. The reason I use it for school fees is so I don’t have to work part-time to pay for the high fees.

I think putting some into a savings account and paying off bills is a fantastic idea!

really?? i was under the impression this was for the younger mothers under 18 i think so that they wouldnt "blow it" it one hit

I got next to nothing for DS1 & 2 but did get the bonus for DS3 - It went on bills and boring stuff like that. And for a variety of reasons I definately DO NOT feel bad about taking the money. I don't know whether I am game enough to start a debate about this topic LOL

That’s what I said too!! “Apparently” next year it will only be fortnightly payments. I’m really hoping the two people who told me are just full of crap!!

Oh i dont feel bad either really what mother would say oh no please i dont need the $5000 I do however think its good that they are means testing it for the high income earners i think it was above $150,000 and i know some of them were compaining about it (no offense to anyone) that does earn that amount

i just looked up on the centrelink website and it said from july 1st $5000 will be payed in a lump sum you do end up getting a couple hundred extra

 I'm new here after loitering on the site for ages! I'm also a fellow Australian and I took particular interest in your posts when you mentioned you were told you were having a boy but then you got girl. That's what I'm personally still praying for though baby boy 3 is due in 2 weeks!! I just wanted to ask you again, how far into the pregnancy were you when they told you that and did you personally see any boy bits on the scan? I did see what I believe to be boy bits on my scan that was taken at 18 weeks but I'm a bit skeptical with some of the things that the sonographer told me like, he said my placenta was low lying and that the baby was small for dates during the scan.

The sonologist report issued to my obstetrician said I was 18 weeks exactly and that my placenta was not at all low lying. My dr then told me the sonologist report is what they go by and the sonographer is only trained to take images, not to analyse them like a sonologist. So i know it's far fetched, but I'm hoping like crazy that he's also wrong about my baby's gender -though I have come to terms with expecting a boy in 2 weeks time!!  And this sonographer had 10 years experience scanning while the first sonographer who did my 12 week scan told me he thought it was a girl and he had 23 years experience in the field. My excitement was certainly shortlived!!!!

So was wondering if you could tell me more. :) Thanks so much and I hope your next bundle of joy will be the blue bundle you're hoping for. I will pass on all my blue dust to you as I'm surrounded by all blue at the moment! Well except if by some miracle, I get a delivery room surprise and hear pink. Not likely though. :(

Wow I want a bonus baby!  The sad thing is in the US people would be having babies for the money and not the baby.  Just wondering if you have twins do you get $10,000?
