Sorry, I didn't read the title of this post properly, I see you are in Australia. Then if that is the case, this is what my accountant emailed me when I asked him about tax rebates for IVF. Please note it is a tax deduction and not through the medicare system.
THE TAX OFFICE HAVE
INDICATED THAT ANY PAYMENTS FOR THE IVF PROCEDURE PAID TO A QUALIFIED DOCTOR OR
MEDICAL OFFICER IS APPLICABLE FOR THE 20% MEDICAL REBATE FOR COSTS THAT EXCEED
$1500 OUT OF POCKET EXPENSES. ANY OTHER COSTS SUCH AS TRAVEL AND ACCOMMODATION
ETC ARE NOT CONSIDERED MEDICAL COSTS.
In another email I asked him if this was only valid to procedures performed in Australia and his reponse after contacting the ATO was that it was valid for Australia and overseas. I don't think the meds would be included though, just the procedure, but hey, a little back is better than nothing lol.
Hope this helps.
