I'm sorry you got bad news today. We had a scare with our second son's ultrasound. He had three separate indicators that increased the risk for Down Syndrome. He is fine.
1:99 is a higher risk than you would have otherwise, but it's still a very slim chance. And the 1:989 is miniscule. I don't think you said how old you are, but just for some perspective, a 41-year-old mom has a 1:85 chance of Down Syndrome, but that means the vast majority still have healthy babies.
It is hard to have to struggle with news like this. Sometimes I think all that testing can do more harm than good.
