First football practice is today! My poor scrawny 7yo. Yikes!

13 years as a boy mom, and I am just now getting indoctrinated into football!  Not by choice!  My 2 older boys had no interest but my DS3 has begged to play football for 3 years.  He is just a scrawny 7yo!  We have always done baseball, soccer, swimming, basketball -- in other words, civilized, minimal-contact sports where there is NOT a need for an ambulance standing by.  Yikes.

Yeah, I might be a bit worried about that one too.  Make sure he is heavily padded!  I am NOT a sports mom but I realize my kids need to be involved so I have them in swimming, basketball, soccer and karate... but I don't enjoy sports or even going to watch games but I like watching my kids play so I am there!  But I would rather them just be heavily into booksGeeked or something...LOL

Been there. It's scary, esp when they're scrawny. My 16 has always been skinny....he gets off balance in a stiff breeze so I was scared to death when he played football. Had visions of having to rush in to pull huge linebackers off of him. But the upside to being scrawny is that they're usually quick and the big lug kids aren't coordinated enough to grab 'em. Lol.

Welcome to the wonderful world of pain & suffering for moms of football players!!!!  I have to warn you, you may actually see an ambulance come to the field.  DS1 played his first year last season as a 7 1/2 yr. old.  He played with 9 & 10 yr olds but I think he was actually the biggest kid on the field.  You will survive and it's FUN!!!!  conditioning sucks and practice isn't much better, but you will have so much fun on Saturday!  GL getting thru to October and maybe they won't make playoffs!

I have already noticed there is always an ambulance at the middle school games!  At the time I felt smug that my kid was just in the pep band, keeping my orthodontic investment safe! LOL

In my experience, it only happened a couple of times and never on our team, so I don't know how serious it was.  The kids on DS1s team were all pretty skinny, they just seem to be pretty resilient.
