    earrings for babies and toddlers

PLEASE do not turn this into a debate!!! i really do not care if you think that i'm wrong for piercing my dd's ears.

I'm just wondering for those people who have their dd ears pierced if you have more than one earring and what kind of earring do you think is better and why.

Right now i only have the one that we got her ears pierced with. It is a flower stud and the back snap/locks into place and is rounded.they look sort of like this except they are not all pink

I would love to get her a butterfly or ladybug earring or tiny hoops

Do you think the hoop earring would be safe? Or do you think she would stick her finger in the hoop and pull?

I dont have a daughter but the first pair of earrings are really cute..I like the lady bugs too. If I had a daughter, I would definitely get her ears pierced. My personal opinion is that right now studs would b better coz if she decides to pull, it will hurt her ears really bad. My niece had them when she was 18 months old and almost ripped the pierced hole right to the bottom.

I changed my DD earrings once.  My parents got her diamond studs with the safetly back.  I'm glad I went with the back.  She wears these earrings daily.  I plan to ask my parents to get her birthstone for her 2nd Birthday in December.  I like color.  Not sure about the hoops.  I noticed my DD has been picking at her ears lately.  Not sure if it's the age or not.  She's almost 20 months.

I've never checked into getting dd's ears pierced so I didn't know they had safety backs...that's kinda neat.....but I'd be afraid to try the hoops for a while. Even if she didn't pull on them intentionally, I'd worry that she might accidentally snag her finger on it and yank. I've caught my finger in mine a few times and holy cow that hurts!

Has this topic really turned into a debate? Confused Huh?

I think it depends on how much work you want to give yourself...LOL

I personally only put dd in hoopish type of earrings when we go out somewhere...and then at night I put her studs back in.  I have my dd trained very well and to sit for mommy to do both her hair and change her earrings.  I have been very strict since she was a few months old...LOL.  The thing is they do snag on anything...and dd has taken them out if I put her to sleep in them so they are only for show when we are out and about and she doesn't fiddle with her ears then....just when she's bored in her crib...haha

My favorite is to put her in the type of earring posted below and I also have put her in traditional hoops, but I find these are prettier and easier.  She has them in stone, hearts and flowers I think....LOL...hard to keep track.  Since we aren't really doing anything this week, she has been in her studs.  But this weekend we are going to a BBQ and she will be all dolled up with her hoopys and her bracelets....Stick out tongue

I don't have a DD YET!!!!!  But, I will get her ears pierced, probably pretty early.  Something I've always dreamed of doing.  I think any kind of small stud earring is fine, as long as the back is a securing one, not just the push on ones like adults wear.  I bought a pair for myself actually at Target that screwed on.  Didn't know it when I bought them!  I almost broke them pulling the back off.  Anyway.....I don't think I would use hoops until she was at least in school.  Their fingers are so tiny, I can see them getting their fingers stuck in even the smallest hoop.  Or many other things that could get hooked on it.  I would only use a hoop if it hugged her ear, no space in between.

SPILL IT...how do you manage to get her to sit still. i had to nurse dd to take off her earring when we were camping and nurse her again to put them back on. What is your secret????

Hmmm...let me think about this.  I always get moms asking me this when I'm out and about because she is always very well primped...haha...

With the hair, I only believe in using the ouchless rubberband thingys (I finish off her hair with bows to accent)  I wet her hair and put her up on her baby changer and inside the drawer I keep an arsenal of fun things that she can play with and distract her.  She only gets those things when I do hair and change earrings.  I have everything in that drawer like combs, necklaces, rosery beads (really shiney ones), bows, clips...just the kind of things toddlers want to get their hands on but not something you would let them play with unsupervised.  I have also just put her shirt on for the day (and don't put pants on yet) and I give her a little tupperware filled with about an inch of water and she likes to put her hands in it.  That way she doesn't soak her pants...LOL  Distraction is key I guess.  As long as you have a plan (and I always do...haha) you can really have fun with primping.  Some days she is just a monster and will not cooperate so I take a break and come back to it when she is in a better mood.  Usually if I primp her as soon as she wakes up and has eaten she is happy girl.

Same thing with changing earrings.  The key is to get a good grip on them and take them out.  Wait a few seconds.  Get the new earring ready and then really eye up the hole and go for it.  Once it's in, I snap the clasp and its done.  Putting her studs back in are more of a pain but I do it quickly and keep her distracted and I can get it done.  I must not really mind it cause I do it sooooo often.

Edited to add...dd is very used to this though.  I have been doing her hair since she was born (literally) and the earrings since she was 3 months.  She gets both done everyday....

    Hi,

I just had my dd pierced Mon(posts). Where did you find those butterflies? I've been looking for those and can't find them. I love the little hoops but if I get them only use them on special occasions like PP.

I would not do hoops till later on. I'm scared she might pull them off Surprise

as for hair, she MUST have a bow on at all times LOL! but I might have to start making them WAY bigger because she has started pulling them off and everything goes in her mouth Confused
