How did you handle getting up in the middle of the night?

I'm 35 and still hoping to try again for a DD.  I'm a little scared, though, when I think about getting up with a newborn again.  I'm interested to hear how other mature mamas did with an infant.  The sleepless nights seemed like no problem when I had my first 3 in my 20's, but now I am just wiped out at the end of the day and can't imagine not getting a good night's sleep.  Did you adjust to the sleepless nights? or did you feel exhausted all of the time?  I just want an idea of what I could be in store for.  Thanks.

Mentally, I've been able to handle it...I can still function but PHYSICALLY!  OMG.  Dark circles, lank hair, you name it.  This baby has really taken a toll on my looks!  Sorry for the bad news...but a DD is worth it, and you are on the "young" side of being a MM!

Strangely i have found the whole lack of sleep alot easier this time around even though i am now in my 30s.  I think i have more patience and know from the others how quickly they grow out of the baby stage so tend to embrace it all a bit more.

I do whatever gets me through the day for energy - lots of coffee and chocolate - and make sure i get to bed early and i also take baby to bed if he's having a bad night.  The older kids will often get him up in the morning and let me have a bit of a sleep in also - one of the big perks of having a gap between kids.

IMO  - lack of sleep is well worth the joy of a baby
