    making your own cloth diapers???

I wonder if making your own cloth diapers would save you money?Sometimes i find that it costs more to handmake things but sometimes it is better quality.

There are alot of websites with people who sew their own cloth diaper. i'm tempted to give it a try.

Re: making your own cloth diapers???

I make my own cloth diapers and I think more care goes into making them when a mother makes them :) The prices of cloth diapers, have gone way up and you will save a ton of money if you make your own. Its so easy to make them and you can even try to make one from this site: www.diaperkit.com. You can order one diaper kit and make one diaper first to see if its something you enjoy :)  Good luck.

I have made them.....the more you sew the easier it gets.  I got my alot of my pul from http://www.celticclothswholesale.com/ and http://www.diapercuts.com/.  I did pay for a few patterns but I ended up making my own pattern.  I thought some of the patterns were too exspensive when you dont know if you will like it.  I did not make my own inserts for the pocket diapers.....I thought that was too much trouble.  I did have alot of fun!

Re: making your own cloth diapers???

I am going to consider this...I like to sew and have looked at some of the sites where you can buy patterns..I may try one from that kit first just to see...but I know everyone has their favorites so I don't know which ones woud be best to start with...heck I'm not even cycling or pregnant, but I am thinking ahead.

Can you use cloth diapers on newborns? I just figured when the time comes I will use disposable ones for a bit...but if I knew which cloth diapers where best I would even consider making some way ahead of time...

Re: making your own cloth diapers???

Making your own cloth can save you money for sure, but it can be a trial and error kind of thing til you get it down pat. I make diapers for a living, and have been at it for almost 5 years now, so let me know if you have questions. Jen from Celtic Cloths is wonderful. I get my bamboo from her at wholesale pricing and have known her for a several years. You'll want to find PUL, microfleece, and some sort of absorbent material for the soaker. I would advise you to avoid flannel. It's not very absorbent and tends to get stiff with repeated use. Let me know if I can help you at all.

You might need to use a walking foot on the PUL if you have one. I use it when making AIO's and it's a lifesaver.
