    Family cars?

Ok, so I'm bored......since this is the big family group.....what kind of vehicle do you drive?

We just upgraded from a Chevy Trailblazer (my baby :( ) to a Yuck Ford Expedition....I hate Fords!  But, wider and more room for another carseat, so I had to bite the bullet. I wanted a Tahoe, but sadly the Fords are cheaper (wonder why--cause it'll die on me sooner!)

Before I had DS1, I swore I would never drive a mini-van---I ended up in 3 of them!  I'd rather pay more for gas than drive a mini-van again though.  I guess the newer ones are nice, but I'm not a van person.  If I have anymore kids, DH swears he's buying a cargo van, though.  OK, OK, I won't have anymore!  Geez!

I can't wait til I can drive a sports car or a regular sized pick-up truck again.....

Our last car was an X5 and we loved it, except the doors were soooo heavy, do you find that?  since having ds3 we now have the Benz 7 seater which is a fantastic and very very safe car!  We probably would have stuck with the BMW except Benz came out with the 7 seater first.

    Re: Family cars?

I drive a Chrysler Grand Voyager.  We converted the two middle captain chairs to a bench seat so it seats 8 people instead of 7 for when this little Pumpkin finally arrives!

We need to get a new one soon though, and I can't decide whether to go with another Voyager or to go for something else.  The problem is I hate people carriers that look like trade vehicles with seats in!  I'm too fussy apparently!

    My family is finally complete!

I'll be paying attention to this thread if I get pregnant.  I currently drive a Mini convertible Surprise

I really don't want to give it up, and I'm going to do my damndest to make it work, but my husband says it is in no way practical for kids.  Anybody know of a stroller and carseat that would fit in it??? Happy Wink

Cat, don't give it up..... my DH has just finished restoring an old '69 Mustang convertible and my kids just love it.... its the highlight of their w/end if its nice weather.  Whilst adults appreciate convertibles, let me tell you, kids do even more!

I drive an expedition.  We love the room!!  I just have to say mine is a 2000 and has 112,000 miles on it.  And the only thing that has went on it was the alternator.  Unfortunately it happened in Ohio on the way home from NY.  But other than that we have had no problems!!  Although it does make me nervous and I cant wait to get a newer one, it still runs very good!  I know we only have 2 kids and are TTC#3, but we are military and do alot of travel and we fill that sucker right up with the kids, luggage and 2 boxers!!!!

Hi i actually had a merc ML a couple years ago i loved it although i had the 5 seater. I considered getting the new merc 8 seater but i loved the X5 a little more. Thank god i'm in this generation at least big families can drive around in style years ago it was van, van or van.  LOL

We just got a new BMW X5, it's a beautiful car but it is a bit sqishy with all the boys and prams, nappy bags etc so DH drives that and i drive an 8 seater Toyota Sahara, which has a bit more room and extra seats to cart the kids friends around with us. Only problem with two big cars in the family is the cost of petrol.

This is off the topic but i just got an email which said.  "A wife asked her husband to take her somewhere expensive..........so he took her to a service station" if your from Aus i'm sure you can relate.

I drive an Expedition, too. We had a (gorgeous!!!) black Dodge Ram Sport extended cab and it fit all of us before the baby just fine......4 kids in the backseat, one in the front middle...but had to trade it in b/c dd's car seat wouldn't fit. I miss that truck.

But the Expedition is nice. It's 10 years old and the only problem we've had is that the compass is off......says that we're going east for north, but other than that (and the gas mileage) I really like it.

    Re: Family cars?

I know I am late to the conversation.. We had a 15 passenger Ford E-350 great van sturdy and heavy duty but with gas at what it is we traded it in for a smaller car we got a Hyundai since it is usually me and the the youngest.. We also have a Ford F-350 truck that seats 6 so we had a seat installed into the bed of the truck (it has a canopy) the seat we can remove if we need to, but that pulls our travel trailer...So we keep it even though it is sorta expensive to fill up nowadays..
