Saw a fertility Specialist really miserable, he focussed on my AGE to the point I cried!!!!

    Hi there fellow mature mamas.

I went to see the Fertility Specialist today, I am 39 nearly 40 and he made me feel like I am a Dinosaur !!!! Perhaps I should be put in a museum!!!

He gave me the following stats for getting pregnant, they were at 40 you had a 5% chance of getting pregnant and he said that was high if you and your partner were healthy.  If you or your partner have a problem he gave a 0.2% of getting pregnant and said based on that statistics you would get pregnant in 40 years and then made a joke gee that would make you 80 years old.

Is it really possible to get pregnant at 40?????????????? Should I just give up?????  Am I fooling myself.

     What a day!

I think it's important to understand that statistically your chances are better if you're 25 vs. 39.  But that's a long way from being hopeless if you're 39!  It all depends on your individual eggs.  Did he suggest doing any testing to check your ovarian reserve etc.?  That will tell you a lot more than just your age what your chances are.

Also -- my mom got pg at 39 with my baby brother!

Good luck and lots of baby dust to you!

My mom got pg with my brother at either 38 or 39 no problem. Like Maureen said it depends on the quality of your eggs ( I'm guessing anyway). Some women have a problem and others are just built to keep getting pregnant.

What a jerk doctor! I would've had a hard time not slapping some respect into him.

I have met several women online and IRL who have had babies in their late 30's, early 40's. It may be a little harder, but it's def not impossible. I agree with the others that egg quality is much more important.

    Good luck!

Do you think maybe she used donor eggs?

But that doctor needs some bedside manners sensitivity training.

My mum, SIL and two friends have all had babies between the ages of 38 and 45. Theres nothing to lose by trying although it seems to be the quickest way to fall pg is by NOT trying,LOL.

What a horrible bedside manner for a fertility spec, ask around i'm sure you can find a more compassionate doctor.

    Good luck

He was soooo rude. I agree he lacks  compassion and tact.

Lots of women get pregnant after 40. Don't give up.

My mom had 3 miscarriages when she was in her 20s and was told she would never get pregnant again. My parents then adopted my brother and sister.  Thirteen years after the last miscarriage (birth control was never used--she figured why bother?) my mom got pregnant with me at age 39.

Thanks so much for all your kind words.  It really has been so helpful to me.

What would I do without you all.

I really took his words to heart and even now feel like I a do not have muc chance of getting pregnant.  He really made me feel like I am too old!!

I feel so stressed that my AF is delayed!
