Hi there!

I am starting to research PGD and I was wondering if any of you could recommend a good doctor in the NYC/LI area for PGD. It would be for just family balancing.

Thanks!

Here is the link to the list of clinics that collaborate with microsort-  just scroll down to your state and you will see the clinics listed.  I would bet that most of these clinics do PGD for Family balancing if they are also participating in Microsort.  Besides you may want to add MS to your PGD  cycle to increase the # of embies of the desired gender.  Good Luck!   TJ

I am sorry to intrude, but I would love more information as well on PGD in the area. I live in northern NJ, at 30 minutes from NYC.  I had no idea that one could do PGD in NYC.If you have time, can you give me some information as well?

Many thanks ,

Hi TJ,

How are you?  How is it going?  I'm looking forward to reading about your next journey and crossing my fingers that you are successful!

With regards to your list, I'm sure it can be helpful to some, but all I am saying is to be CAREFUL!  I actually consulted with one of the doctors on that list and was not comfortable that he was on the up and up.  He wanted me to call his cell phone all the time and not the office, which I thought was really odd.  He said some strange things in our consultation that my DH and I thought were inappropriate.  He also quoted me a really low fee which I thought was also kind of fishy. A doctor is really not supposed to even get involved in the financial aspect.  He also was not that excited about Microsort.  Although I am not eligible for m/s because of my age, he said he did not recommend it to his other patients.

The doctor who I have chosen to do my IVF/PGD is not on this list. He is one of the most respected doctors in the country.  He also was not that excited about Microsort or Ericcson, but I know for a fact that others in the program are using m/s.  (Believe me, if I could use m/s I definitely would!!)  So far my experience with the program has been wonderful!  It is a very confusing process and there is always someone coordinating every step of the way and answering my questions.

I have a consult with SIRM NYC coming up but would love some insight on  (especially) that and/or other NY facilities that do PGD/IVF for family balancing.  Would it be ok to send you a PM if you have any time as well?  Sorry to jump in here as well- but my head is swimming just trying to get prepared for the consult and all!

Thanks either way!

P.S. If anyone else reading this has had experience w/SIRM NYC by all means please private message me here!

Hello to you all!!  Nicksmom-  That must of been a very disturbing experience with that strange doctor.  I appreciate your info and giving a heads up about such a freaky experience.  I am sorry you had to go through that considering how stressful and confusing the whole process and then to deal with some wacky doc just would make it worse.  I am glad you found a better place!!  Is that strange doc on the list still for Microsort?  I think they updated the list recently so I am curious if that doc is still listed.  I of course cannot personally vouch for any of the doctors on the list as I have only dealt with and been to GIVF for all my cycles.  Yes, I agree of course that adding in Microsort if you have the opportunity to do so is a good idea.  Thanks for the heads up and hopefully you can steer the members who pm you far away from that wacky doc.    Thanks for you good wishes as well.  Take Care, TJ

TJ,

Yes, the doctor I was talking about is on the list you sent. I don't want to totally "diss" him, his office seemed legitimate and his qualifications were certainly good from what I saw.  But, I was not comfortable calling him on his cell phone.  At the end of my consultation I asked him if I should coordinate with his office when I was ready to cycle, but he continued to say I should call him directly or e-mail him.  He told me stories about his other patients that I thought were unnecessary and inappropriate.  He quoted me $12k for absolutely everything including PGD, which just isn't possible!  As for Microsort, he basically said it wasn't worth the time and money to make the trip and it was a hassle.  He seemed annoyed by it, and talked about airport delays and catching a cab.  Actually, I wasn't really put off by the whole thing until I consulted with my current doctor.  That was when I saw the difference in professionalism.  The program I am using is extremely organized.  I was examined at my consultation, blood work was taken, I was given a huge folder with all the info explaining the process, a fee schedule, phone numbers of all the nurses and coordinators, and I was set up with an HSG test appointment and an IVF orientation.  None of this happened at my consultation with the first doctor.  But, maybe that office was just run differently.  I had to trust my gut feeling.
