Getting pregnant at 37 or 40?

    Hi there,

I have still not decided whether to concieve one more time or not (GRRR that longing for a DD can consume you..)

So if I were going for it, I could either start my attemts (with natural swaying) next year or I could wait until I get a bit older

     - then I think life would be easier in general, cause the age gap would increase, and maybe (just maybe) older women do

get more acidic and tend to have girls more often !? On the other hand, I may not get pregnant at all then, as my eggs will have

    become older...

So as I dont know how to make a poll (have not figured that out yet, isn't that pathetic...) I simply ask you all

should I start sooner or later, if I want to get pregnant again?

Krissymum (ok, I know it may be a boy too but then I will just HAVE to get on without a DD, it would be my very last shot...)

    Hi there,

If you are sure you want another baby, and it sounds like you do but are not quite ready yet.......then my strong advice is to do it SOONER. Many women at 40 cannot get pregnant and chance of abnormalities is higher so why would you want to  risk that?

I am 38 and pregnant, but who knows what would have happened if I waited. Everybodies fertility declines with age.

Anyhow, just give it a bit more time and the right decision for you will become clear.

If there is any chance you want another one, I am with the PP on this one.  Don't wait until you are 40.  Sure, plenty of women at 40+ have healthy babies, but many more do not.  Just look at the chart that was posted not too long ago how fast fertility drops after 35.  I just think why would you put yourself through all the troubles?  My SIL is in her 40's and is doing everything she can to have a baby but sadly it does not look like it is going to happen for her.  Just my My Two Cents  Good Luck in whatever you decide!!Hearts

Hmmm . I think you probably shouldn't wait. I know you are suppose to be more acidic as you age but here is an example in my world where I just don't see it

Grandmother had my uncle, Mike , at 40 (Had two girls in her 20's )

My aunt had my cousin Joseph , at 40 ( Had first boy at 38)

My aunt had my cousin , Jon, at 40 (Had two girls in late 20's and early 30's)

My friend had her son at 40 (had first son at 38)

Another friend had her son at 40( had two other boys in her 30's)

Another friend had her son at 40. ( had a girl at 34 , a boy at 36  , another boy at 38)

Another friend had her daughter at 40. (had two girls both after 35)

Another friend boy/ girl twins at 37.

Another friend had a girl at 40, boy at 42 and a boy at 47!

I just don't see how being old helps in having a girl. SO if I were in your shoes I would just do it at 37. Oh , I got pregnant at 37 and it was a boy.

I so hope you get your girl!!!! I wish I had pink dust , sadly I don't .

Although , now that I look at it I have some damn fertile family and friends!!!  Yea mature mamas!!!!

Please do not wait, if you are sure you want another baby.  I waited and now are suffering the consequences I am nearly 40 and have a few potential fertilty issues that have been discovered recently.

Although they say older age makes you more prone to having girls it is not a gurantee.

Re: Getting pregnant at 37 or 40?

    Hi again,

Oh, thank you for all the kind answers!

I know you are right - it is now or never...

I just keep thinking that if I try now and have another son, I will always be thinking that what

if I had waited, would I then have had a DD at 40? Then I guess I will never know that Stick out tongue

I am reffering to an interesting article in Human Repruduction Vol, 12 no. 10 p 2321 - 2323.

Out of this article there was a study made in Finland 1997, that showed that women 35 years and older had 7,0%

more female than male newborns. And for the fathers the figures were 5,6% more females than males

at 35 and older. SO I have this in my mind thinking that I am just sligthly over 35 (as I will be 36 this September)

and this 7% increase probably raises a little year by year and not just all of a sudden? So basically I want to know

that I at least have the extra 7% on my side for a girl. I am grasping after a very small percentage-shift, but it is at least something

and maybe more reliable facts that the splime theory (TBM)...

Still dont know what to do! Confused Huh?

Definitely sooner rather than later.  If the waiting is really due to not being sure about whether you want another at all, it might me ok to wait until 38ish.  If you're just hoping to up your chances of having a girl, I think any help there would be offset by the chances of not being able to get pregnant/chromosomal abnormalities.  Good luck with your decision.

Re: Getting pregnant at 37 or 40?

It's such a hard decision to make - i really think having another child has to be a decision of the heart not the head because there are always reasons why it may not be a good idea right now.  I am a strong beleiver that when it comes to children you will never regret the ones you have only the ones you don't.

I say if you want another go for it now.  Life may become easier in the physical care side of it as your children get older (more sleep) but it becomes busy in other ways like homework, afterschool activities etc.

While many women do get pg at 40 many others don't so you are really taking a risk by waiting and i beleive that the info on this board would help you to sway more so than your age, also bear in mind that you only have 2 boys and a good majority of women with 2 boys go on to have a girl with no swaying at all

    Good luck
