Dr. P- ? about my tubes being tied

I am having my 3rd son and am planning on getting my tubes tied. However, in the future, if I decide to do IVF/PGD, would having my tubes tied affect the chance of me concieving? Would there be any additional cost? Would I do the procedure like others who dont have there tubes tied? If there is anything that would affect this, I will not be getting them tied.

    Thank you,

I had my tubes tied 15 years ago. I am 41 now and going thu IVF.  It will not affect my chances.  But get them to cut them so that if you really want to you can have them rejoined.

Thanks, people think I am crazy for having my tubes tied, knowing that I want another. But, I figure, if I am going to do IVF, what difference would it make anyways right.

DH was concidering a vascetumy, and then a  long way down the road, a reversal...But, the chances of succedding (I have heard) is like only 30-40%.....That, along with the odds of IUI or IVF working, isnt that good.  I figure better to do tubes...of course then I would HAVE to have IFV, (no IUI)...costly..but worth it in the end.

Having your tubes tied is fine if you are planning IVF-PGD. Pregnancy rate is not changed.

I had a tubal after #3 and got pregnant with #4 through IVF on the first try. I was told it made NO difference at all......

Sorry, just thought I would pop in and say IVF is a very good option for people with tubal ligations.

Just as a thought, why not hold off on getting the tubes tied and get an IUD instead for a few years?

Just piping in to say I'm another success story. I had my tubes tied with #5, then went on to do MS/IVF/PGD and my baby girl is almost three. It does not affect the IVF process at all.

Oh good, that makes me feel better. Thats what I thought, but wanted to double check. Someone asked about an IUD, I had one before and it came out...resulting in ds#3. I also got preggo on the pill with ds#1. So, we have decided to do something permanent (either tubes or vascemtumy) until we decide on IVF. Looks like the tubes are the way to go.

Re: Dr. P- ? about my tubes being tied

I had my tubes tied after my 2nd son in 2004. I regret it awfully. Reversals are very expensive.

I HAVE to do IVF. I have no choice. If you dont mind that, then its ok.. but their may be new more effective methods in the future that we are not able to do. I have blue cross and they cover IVF, thankfully so that is our only option!

Just wanted to put in my two cents :)

    Thank you,

Having your tubes tied will not hurt your chances with IVF. It may affect coverage of IVF though. If you have coverage for IVF, having your tubes tied may invalidate it.
