    PH of CM and O+12

Along with cervical position and change in cm consistency, what about using cm ph as well?   I'm just wondering because I know that some of us aren't able to tell if our cervix is soft or hard (and high or low)... and if supplements are also making it hard to see the change in cm consistency, would we be able to go by the ph to be sure that we've O'd?  I'm assuming that when the consistency changes, the ph usually changes, right? (at least, that's what seems to happen with me).  So, if we know at least within a day or two when we O, couldn't we just use ph as a guide for O+12?  Redcin?

Re: PH of CM and O+12

I've never checked the ph of my non-ewcm, but I do think that the ph will drop down once your cm has shifted from EW to creamy/sticky or you just dry up. I can tell when I've Oed as I can see the change start to happen in my cm before my cervix hardens up, and also (tmi) the smell of my cm changes.

If you can visually see the change, I don't see why the cm would be that important. Especially since if you're swaying for a girl and doing O+12 you want your ph overall to be lower, so it would be lower all the time if you're doing diet and supps.

Heather JJ, what's the CM PH difference in your case? I am assuming it gets lower after O, right, so for how long it remains lower and when does it start rising again?

Has anyone else tested it before, during and after O? Is there substential difference? I don't think my CM PH changes and I measured it during a few cycles at various times in the cycle.

People are sooo different, that's amazing!

My pH drops from about 6.5-6.75 to 5 within hours.  That's why I'm becoming a big O+12 enthusiast. (This is all without supplements, my natural pH, I guess... I'm not ttc yet.)

Regarding CM however, I don't see much of a shift around O which is quite interesting... I can best tell when I O by O pain and the pH shift.

Re: PH of CM and O+12

I've been taking cranberry and cal/mag/vit D for several months and what I notice this month is that when my cm is thinner/more watery or EWCM (which I only ever get a tiny bit of), the ph is around 6.5, but when it's thicker and more tacky, it's around 4.5.  I tried to do a vinegar/distilled water douche (ph 4) yesterday when my ph was around 6 or 6.5, and it didn't bring it down at all Sad  I guess next time I try I'll have to use more or something.

The only thing is, I have to admit that my info might be totally wonky because I still haven't got pp AF back yet.  I think my body is trying to O right now though, because I've had way more cm than in the past few months and it's really thin and watery, with the tiniest bit of EWCM if I really look for it (sorry TMI!).  The ph has been around 6 or so for the past few days, so that's why I'm wondering if my body is trying to O.  It went back to sticky for one day and the ph was 4.5, then back to watery and higher ph the next day....

Anyway, I'm just thinking that like justagirl wrote, maybe I'll be one of those people who can go by ph to time the O+12....  (and can I just say that I am SOOOOO frustrated waiting for AF to come back! Grouchy)

my ph is about 5.5 when not oing, then when my cm shifts to creamy or ew it goes up to 6.5. then when cm shifts back to sticky it goes back down to 5.5.  I have been taking supps for about 6 weeks.

to justagirl: purely fyi...i also used to consider this midcycle pain as an indication of O...there has been a few posts on this subject before and apparently, there is no clear proof that this pain occurs when the egg drops from the ovary...please see this, yo ucan also google it in wikipedia

    Mittelschmerz/Lower Abdominal Discomfort

About one-fifth of women actually feel ovulatory activity, which can range from mild aching to twinges of sharp pain. This ovulation symptom, called Mittelschmerz, may last anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours and is usually noticed in the right side of lower abdomen.
http://www.babyhopes.com/articles/painful-ovulation.htmlPainful ovulation may occur every month, but more typically occurs every third to fourth cycle.Mittelschmerz is believed to have a variety of causes:
    • Prior to - The swelling of follicles in the ovaries prior to ovulation. While only one or two eggs mature to the point of being released, a number of follicles grow during the follicular phase of the menstrual cycle (non-dominant follicles atrophy prior to ovulation). Because follicles develop on both sides, this theory explains mittelschmerz that occurs simultaneously on both sides of the abdomen.[2]
    • At ovulation - The ovaries have no openings; at ovulation the egg breaks through the ovary's wall. This may make ovulation itself painful for some women.[2]
    • At the time of ovulation, blood or other fluid is released from the ruptured egg follicle. This fluid may cause irritation of the abdominal lining.[1][2]
    • At ovulation, this pain may be related to smooth muscle cell contraction in the ovary as well as in its ligaments. These contractions are in response to an increased level of prostaglandin F2-alpha mediated by the surge of leutinizing hormone (LH).[3]

After ovulation, the fallopian tubes contract (similar to peristalsis of the esophagus), which may cause pain in some women.[1]

Re: PH of CM and O+12

    Thanks, delabom!

This actually helps a lot, because in some cycles I have cramps twice within 24hrs. Now I see that I probably have some pre-ovulatory cramps, and also some cramps right around O.

It takes time to figure out how to O+12 just right Stick out tongue
