Can braces be claimed on income tax?

Oldest ds and I both got braces recently.  Does anyone know if this can go under our medical claims on next year's income tax?

    Thanks!

Yes! Here is the catch -  medical expenses that exceed 7.5% of your AGI is whats tax deductible.

Just like property taxes if you can bulk it together one year you might get a nice break verses  you end up using your standard deduction because your itemized items are less than the standard.

This year we might be able to take a deduction with dental work,vision,ivf,co-pays,in one year.

Re: Can braces be claimed on income tax?

If you don't meet the AGI requirement, then consider doing flexible spending if your employer offers it for next year - you set aside up to $3,000 per year to pay for medical expenses, and it's all pre-tax dollars.  I believe that orthodontia is included. So if you miss out this year, consider it for next year because those braces will be costing you in 2009 too!
