Hi Ladies,

I am from Australia, where gender selection was banned a few years ago. My Dh and I have been seriously considering travelling to the US or Asia for sex selection. However, in the meantime I have found an IVF clinic near me who would be happy to take me on as a patient for IVF/PGD as I am 'advanced maternal age' (what a lovely term!!!) and I have a history of chromosonal problems in my family.  Obviously this would not include sex selection. However, when I asked they said they always try and give the patient a say in which gender they implant - if there are enough healthy embreyos available. Now DH and I are not sure what to do. Obviously being able to do PGD in our own hometown is the vastly better option - but what would the chances be of having no healthy female embies to implant?? Obviously it would be different for everyone, but would that be a very real possibility?? Or would the odds generally be in our favour??

We of course would be happy to implant a healthy boy embie also - it would just mean we would be paying the clinic another visit some time down the track in search of our DD!!

Does anyone have any thoughts???

Dear Tina, Thanks so much for your reply. I think we might give it a try. I know that IVF is never a walk in the park and not something to go into lightly. I guess, for us, there is really nothing to lose, if we end up with only a healthy boy emb to implant, that's more than okay, that's great. It just means we might try again further down the track.

I would love to know how you are going with your treatment - please keep us informed!!

I wish you all the luck in the world!!!
