This is what happened to me after my ER yesterday.  Does this sound off to you?  What could have been done to increase quality and numbers fertilized.  I was on 150 Gonal F, 5 lupron, 15 hcg and 10000 hcg trigger.  Was also on metformin, royal jelly and prenatals.  The dr felt after seeing 24+ follicles on each side on a SHG that I had polycystic ovaries. I hope this one works.

I don't know anything about polycystic ovaries, but my fert numbers weren't great either.  I had around 40 follicles prior to ER, 21 eggs retrieved, and 12 fertilize.  I am not sure why it happens that way sometimes, but many doctors do think that less eggs make for better quality eggs.  After my cycle, I definitely agree.  Are you showing any signs of OHSS?  Everyone warned me that I would likely get it.  However, I had absolutely no signs of it prior to ET.  As soon as I got my BFP, I was miserable.  Gained 15 pounds in 2 weeks and was in terrible pain.  Just keep an eye out for it, if you think you might get it, consider a FET.  Those are still great numbers, good luck!

I think it is quality over quantity too. 9 is a good number to work with. :) Good luck to you, fingers crossed that you will get a great report!

It's difficult to say. I know you're probably disappointed, but it really is a good number to work with! I have noticed on here that many times when girls end up with a large number of eggs, not as many fertilize as you'd expect. And I'm not sure of your age - I had almost the same number retrieved with my first cycle, and the majority fertilized, but 5 years later both the number retrieved and the number fertilized dropped by 1/3.

Stay hopeful, and keep us posted! I think you have a very good shot with 9! Good luck!!

Thanks for the encouragement.  I keep thinking of what I could've done or eaten.

I was turning 34 with my last cycle, and they retrieved around 19, and 13 fertilized. With my cycle a few years ago, 27 were retrieved, and 22 fertilized. I think a lot of it IS just chance, cycle to cycle, but in my case, the protocol was exactly the same, so I really believe age had a lot to do with it.

Don't blame yourself or question what you did or didn't do - I don't believe, for the most part, there's ANYTHING we can do. We have to trust that our doctor's recommended protocol is the right one (or question them if we have doubts). After that, it's all up to the meds and our bodies. We can only control so much. As I said before - stay hopeful!! 9 really is a good number to work with!

Yes, I second what everyone has said here. Sometimes with large numbers, not so many fertilise. You have a great number to work with. I have polycystic ovaries and they were very cautious with my doses of meds. I had 12 retreived and only 9 were mature. Only 3 fertilised and one died before PGD. You have a really good chance with 9 fertilised, good luck X

Agree with the others about quality vs. quantity.  I was disappointed that I only got 6 eggs, but then all 6 fertilized.  I did end up with a normal girl for transfer (BFN).  For the next cycle I am hoping for a few more eggs, but realistically don't think I'll have more than 10 or so.  My husband asked my RE how many eggs was the most he'd ever retrieved and he said 50, but he also said that was "not good."  So with 9 fertilized I think you are in good shape!

Your stats are similar to mine.  I had 30 eggs harvested, 12 fertilized normally, 9 made it to PGD.  Of those, only 3 were tested to be healthy (2-probe PGD).  We transfered the two healthy XX.

In the end, my RE and I felt I was probably overstimulated a little.  Too many eggs, and not many of great quality.

BUT - It only takes 1 or 2 good embies to give you a fighting chance of BFP!  I was a OHW, hope you are too.  :)
