So, strict IG girl diet means...?

I know that i can only eat foods that are allowed in the TTC girl diet list in the FAQ sheet section.. but I'm confused on the variety of the cuisines i can eat.. for example Chicken, egg, cucumber and low sodium mayo are allowed. DOes it mean, i can eat a chicken sandiwch consisting of Bread, chicken, slices of cucumber and low sodium mayo? Bread is not in the girl diet list though, so would this be safe, considering the main ingredients are those of allowed in the girl diet list?

What about when you do a soup? Can you make a creamy chicken soup out of the following ingredients: Chicken, fresh cream, and leeks and stay within the sodium range? Fresh cream is not in the girl diet list.

There are many recipes i can think of using main ingredients listed in the ttc girl, but i'm not sure if complimentary things such as bread, tortilla, corn bread,  cream, sour cream are allowed? I know that sauces and pastes are strictly probihited due to its sodium content.

My grandmother's family recipe is chicken mince rolled in egg omelletes then steamed and sliced, as well as green beans stirfried with eggs (no other sauces or seasoning just sprinkle of salt and pepper).. eaten with warm rice... no wonder she had 8 daughthers and only 2 sons!!

Ok I could be wrong but Cream yes - it is dairy and low salt. Low sodium bread is ok on the diet - white is best - but only after midday - keep carbs low in the morning. Corn bread, tortillas should be ok too but check the sodium content. Your grandmother's chicken mince recipe sounds fine but leave out the salt.  Could I have the recipe??? I am not doing the diet strictly yet, but am experimenting with recipes and ideas. I made a chicken mince cannelloni with mozzella cheese (lower sodium than cheddar), cream, leeks and some herbs (nothing with salt though).

For me personally, if it was not on the IG diet, I did not touch it. That meant no bread etc., I think there are certain wraps which are very low in sodium if you are that way inclined, but you would have to check. I think this is why alot of girls loe weight on the diet, which also sways girl! GL

Twomaybethree - yes, my grandmother (and even now passed down to my mum and aunts!) used to make this chicken mince rolled in omelletes. It's like a swiss roll version  or sushi roll version of chicken and egg. Basically for me i would whisk two or three eggs make it into thin omelletes and put the chicken mince and roll them.  You'll have nice long rolls of omelletes and chicken and steam it for 15-20 mins. Then slice it up. You can serve it with rice and steam green beans. It's healthy and low in fat! The original version would of course have some salt in it, but if you follow the IG diet definitely omit the salt and use mrs dash instead?

I'm also aware that flour has a quite significant amount of sodium in it (maybe that's why bread isn't actually allowed, as it has flour and yeast), how safe is it to use it when ttc girl? THe girl cookbook in the FAQ section has Raspberry muffins recipe i think?

I can think quite a few pancakes, muffins, and dessert recipes strictly using the IG girl diet ingredients (minus butter or anything salty or high in sodium of course) - would this still be girl friendly diet?

really - pure flour contains salt??

just checked the packet in the cupboard - 1% sodium per 100g - so extremely low in salt???

I thought bread was allowed but make sure you choose low sodium white bread rather than whole grains?? Flat corn or rice bread perhaps??? not in the morning though and certainly not huge heavy portions?

Just my interpretation of the girl diet cook book - but like i said above I could be wrong - really don't know how I'm going to cope with the diet - I've been experimenting with recipes (not TTC until mid year) but when I try a day here or there I feel like I'm starving - light headed, queasy and unfortunately when I feel queasy I crave salt :( So I figure a bit of bread, IG raspberry muffins, flour based items amongst all the yoghurt, milk, aspartame, chicken, leeks, beans and supplements - is better than something high in salt?????

Ok maybe I'm grasping at straws :P but I have to find a way to make the diet managable and achievable.

I"m not sure if flour is really high in sodium, but i once checked my self raising flour package (i'm running out of flour just now and just thrown out the packaging so can't check exactly how much sodium it has) and it has some sodium in it, perhaps i might have misinterpreted it wrong.. as soon as i saw the word "sodium" written on the table i got freaked out.. lol

If the IG strict diet does not allow flour, how come the IG girl cookbook allows raspberry muffins and i think, a lamb chop or roast in it too?

I know i sound stupid, but if i only eat strictly what's on tiers 1-3, plus bread (ocassionally), creme fraiche, sour cream (all dairy), does it mean i'm risking my effort for swaying?

I'll try to stick as close as possible to the IG diet but... maybe if i get hungry i'll swallow loads of milk and eat bowls and bowls of pasta/rice.. lol...

I agree, I think we have to be reasonable about it all. I know Tamara says only what is on the tiers yet the cook book has other things included??? so doesn't really make sense. It seems extremely unhealthy to not eat anything that isn't on the tiers - i like the idea of the acid forming diet moreso. It doesn't make sense to me that alkaline things like beans are on the girl diet. Is there a scientific reason that the diet is so rigid? Isn't it all about the right balance?

I applaud your common sense. Unless a doctor or dietician has developed this diet (and I doubt they have, because no dietician would recommend a lot of what is in this diet, or would recommend eliminating things that have been eliminated), I wouldn't do it. Especially when TTC. Not eating until midday is not healthy, and for those who TTC for months, that's a pretty long period of time to go without essential 'fuel' for the body. I know people are desperate to conceive their desired gender, but I think you really need to put this into perspective and do what is best for your body and the baby you will hopefully conceive, regardless of gender.
