Hi Ladies: Well, we have decided to take the plunge and try again for a girl....naturally. I am lined up with Flagurl, supps and replens. I just don't understand ph testing. My cm is low (5), but urine is much higher, like a 7. Has anyone else ever had such differences? Should I be taking more supps?

Also, should I replens and douche? I am worried about those off-replense days getting too high on the pH scale and thought about adding in a douche for good measure.

Thanks and happy Easter.

Hi there.  I just started testing my PH this cycle, so I'm no expert, but I will tell you what I know.

The PH of your urine doesn't matter when TTC.  So, don't worry about that.  You are only testing your CM.  The best way I've found is to check your cervical position like you always would--do a good swipe of your cervix to get some fluid and then wipe some of that on a PH strip.  From what I understand, you want to maintain about a 4.5 PH to get a girl.  If you are at 5, that's pretty good.  You can try adding some cranberry or Cal/Mag to get that a touch lower.  I got my own PH from a 6 to about a 4 in two weeks, just loosely following the girl diet (one serving meat a day, lots of dairy, almost no sodium) and adding cranberry and cal/mag.  I'm taking about 2500 mgs of cranberry and 1000 mgs of calcium and 500 mgs of magnesium--but apparently, the effective doses can vary a great deal from person to person.

I don't know about the douching--it's one of those things I just can't bring myself to do.

I've heard to only use the replens every three days or you risk making your PH too low.  Anything below 4 is supposed to be spermie-killing.

Good luck!

Here is a link to check out:

Tam2boys from Ivillage has done the research into this and found rephresh is better to use than replens.  They are made by the same company.  She explains it in full.

My CM pH is always 4.5 but you wouldn't know it by the boys I keep having.  I'm sure that my CM environment has changed though over the past few years.

Marie,

I know when I was testing my cm was low and urine high as well.  I was doing everything possible, but some days urine was high and some days low.  I tried not to worry about it because my cm was low and they say that is what is important.  I used a lemon juice douche my first month, but I did not get pg.  I used rephresh my second month, and still did not get pg.  My third month I just did diet and supps, I did not want to risk not getting pg again.  I have known girls who did everything the first month and got pg though, it all depends.  I always thought I was the fertility queen, getting pg at the drop of a hat, but all supps and such did a job on my body.  I completely dried out, I'm talking bone dry, and I really did not feel that great.  Being acidic really is not that healthy!!  Good luck to you!!

Claire:

I agree...the supps don't make me feel very good either. But I have a feeling you are going to find out they were worth it! Thanks for the reply.

And I have three boys that change their clothes constantly. How about two washers/dryers? Some big families I know do that. And teach them young how to fold and put away. They'll be great husbands someday! Keep us posted.

Marie,

I agree!  I'm trying to train them.  Hopefully my future daughter-in-laws will be pleased.
