Research has shown that video games have an impact on the way children think...if games are violent, they become desensitized to violence and think in more violent ways.  That doesn't mean that a child will behave in violent ways, though.  My ds1 has a computer (no internet access) that he's allowed to play games on and I notice his vocabulary increasing and problem-solving strategies growing, but that's about all.

I think the issue is there are kids that are influenced by the violence in video games. But it is those kids that cant separate real life from game life IYKWIM. I know so so so many people that are gaming addicts and they have never ran through the streets with a gun and shooting cops and stealing cars and pimping ho's. A lot of the time these games are good for letting off some steam. Same i guess as the racing games. I have never been with a person that has driven 200 through small streets all because they can do it in gran tourismo. Educational games are fantastic learning tool. DS1 learned to type his name on the iPhone and now rights his own name in real life. He also knows all the car names and looks all because of what he has seen in games. But i look at games and consoles as a last resort. Nothing beats the ole one on one teaching between a parent and a child.

 Agree

That doesn't mean all video games are bad.  But they have the potential to be if misused, or if playing graphically violent games all the time.
