Thank you so much for all this information! We too, we will normally go to Farah next year. But I have one question, which bothers my husband: he is afraid that the pgd procedure could have effects on the embryo, both physically or mentally. Did anyone ask this to the doctors in Farah?

(As for myself, I'm quite confident that they wouldn't offer this procedure for medical reasons - as they do in my country, if it would cause any harm to the embryo. But my husband is a bit scared about that.)

Dear Chantal.
I wish you all the luck for you and your husband at Farah.

Regarding your question, unfortunatlly I can’t give you the answer. As I said in our "disclamer" we are not qualified to answer that kind of question. You and your husband have to make those type of decisions and do the research or ask the professionals.

Anyway as I also said, Google is your friend and I can post some links here.

Read " this article and all the articles on the botom of the same page"
(scroll down to:  "This article has been cited by other articles)

Than try those:
1. "BBC News reports about " the largest PGD research ever done .

2. "Same news here"

3. The research itself:"Report on a consecutive series of 581
children born after blastomere biopsy for preimplantation genetic diagnosis"

Hope this helps a little :)

Good luck !

This post was very informative and helpful.. Thanks so much for that.. We are planning to go to Farah Jordan to conceive our son next year.. I hope that we are lucky as you and conceive in our first try too..

I remember reading that you got two embryos transferred.. If you don't mind me asking, have you had a scan to find out how many babies you are expecting ??

Toffee, good luck to you and your wife!

Regarding your question, Yes we had two embrios transfered.

- Fifteen days after the transfer we did a blood test. hCG level was 1200 and betabase.info. indicated twins.

- Five weeks and 2 days, (used online pregnancy calculator) ultrasound detected  one embryo.

- Seven weeks and 3 days, (used online pregnancy calculator)  ultrasound detected one embryo and  strong heart-beat. (That was two days ago.)

Additional calculators .    Here  , here  and    here

I hope you all use them!

Thank you so much for your wonderful informative posts.  Could you tell me a bit more about how you booked your flights?

Find the cheapest flight online at: http://www.expedia.com ( wil explain later why this site) and then:

1.
- Dont book online.
- Pick up the Airline Company that has few flight per day for that destination. That way you can switch flights much easier with more return options with just one easy phone call.
- Go to the website of that company and get their tel. numbers for your country.
- Call them and try to book over phone. (+ 10 EUR per ticket on average.)
- Never book with fixed dates. We had 10 days but we returned home after six. We added days for extended stimulation. (If needed.)
- I rescheduled our flight home on the last day AFTER we were sure that transfer went OK. First chosen return-flight from the same company was fully booked, but the other one was half-full. Very easy to change the flight (+ 20 EUR per ticket on average to have an open option + 30 per change.)
- Remember the name of the sales agent that you are talking with and then:
- Reserve your flight seats but Inform them that you want make an 24 hours reservation. That means that you can cancel that reservation in 24 hours without any additional charges. Every day, call them again and cancel the reservation on your name , and immediately make the reservation on your husband name and so on …
- Yes, you should explain to the sales person and I am sure he will understand. Actually this might be “problem” for him only if the flight is fully booked. During your conversation, ask him about the status of the other flights from the same company for the same day. After few talks with your agent you will realize your “comfort zone” that you have. I booked with Turkish Airlines and the sale agent was informing me about the flight status, every day, after the first "cancelation". That way we booked two days before the flight.

2.
The second way is to ask for the number of available seats every day and make a decision based on that and book online (extended dates again. )
TIP: On expedia, you can click on “Preview seat availability” button and get the status of the seats available. The airline company must support that option.

Thank you for your nice words RayOfLight.

We do live in a user-generated-experience-world and that’s how we got our IVF-PGD idea in the first place.

Its our turn to return the information with more informations.

Good luck and thank you for your nice words !

 Hello there!

Is everything going ok with the pregnancy? Enjoy it! In the mean time I made an appointment with a local IVF specialist who in the past did the first steps of the IVF procedure in preparation of PGD in Farah. I don't know whether he is still doing it, but of course I hope so! We'll see, we have an appointment with him on February 18th.

This was a very informative thread. Right now we are looking at all US based clinics because that's where we live...but I am getting very discouraged because of the extreme cost. $20,000 for 2 cycles...some clinics that will only get us 1 cycle Surprise

I had not considered anywhere outside of the United States because I am terrified of the language barrier, communication issues, and overall cleanliness....that said, this Farah Hospital sounds wonderful.

I dont know if I am converting the Jordan dollars correctly but would you say the entire cycle nuts to bolts is around $7000 USD?  And travel would be on top of that? How much were the travel expenses?  Is there a Bottom Line figure somewhere that includes everything?

Ok,
I will use Jordanian currency (JD) only  to avoid any confusion.
Later you can use this convertor. Jordanian denars to USD
Have in mind that we used long protocol.
Hormone stimulation part was done at our HOME IVF center.
Those are the costs that covered everything we had in Jordan only, starting from day one. (Without hormone stimulation, flights, hotel arrangements etc.)

- First day we paid in advance 2500-JD - This covered everything that happened at Farah hospital written in my post starting from day one till we left .
- Additionally we bought prescribed medication at the pharmacy for total  40-JD ( After hCG injection - some antibiotics,  Duphastone (Dydrogesterone) 3x1 per day and  Cyclogest (Progesterone) - 400mg.)
- That’s all we paid at Farah from day one till we left.

This is their price list that was given to us and to other forum members here.
- Oocyte retrieval 1010 JD;
- Embryo Transfer 340 JD;
- Lab work 350 JD;
- PGD for each embryo (xy OR xx) 75 JD.

As I understand , If you stay in Jordan for stimulation part also (total of 19-22 days on your own arrangement) you have to add  600-JD for full hormone stimulation .

That would be a total of:
3100-JD = 4380USD with hormone stimulation included
or
2550-JD = 3600USD without hormone stimulation .

Hope this help.

Oh, I see thank you!  I was misreading the numbers. I thought you put the 2500 JD deposit and then needed an additional 2500 JD for the IVF but it was only charged one time?

How much were your travel expenses on top of that?

$4300 USD for full IVF is a good deal! That is what just PGD would cost in the USA!

 Hi OliviaNext,

how did you get your girl? By high tech or naturally? And, if you did high tech, where did you do it?

 Thanks!

Chantal
