Ok so we recently moved to a new house and the washer and dryer is downstairs- so is our hamper.

So it was really difficult to wash diapers, I didn't have a pail for them so I was just putting them in plastic bags for now.  Well I couldn't find any good detergent here (I had found some arm and hammer that was rated 4 start on one of the diaper sites but ran out and couldnt find more) so a week ago I ordered some Rockin Green and a Wet Bag and have been using sposies until the stuff got here.  Well I still had dirty diapers in the plastic bags and my stuff just came so I went to do laundry and two of the bags are full of maggots Envy.  I have no idea what to do, I Googled and other people have had this problem on forums, yahoo answers whatever and people give them responses about how to prevent it but nothing about what to do or how to wash them if they're there.  I am thinking about just throwing them away but if I do that to the affected ones it will be about $40 worth of diapers so I thought about bleaching them but I really don't want maggots in my washer.  Sucks because one of the covers is my fav and the other one is my favorite BG (the blue one, of course).  I glanced in the bag only briefly and have no idea how many there are.....

puke puke puke.

wash them in the hottest cycle you can.. and then rewash on normal... you can put a little bleach in if you want.. but the bodies will pretty much disinegrate in the sanitizing stage...  believe me, with four kids, day care and pets... it happens....

well... I could be one of those types of women that go.. "EEWW OMG I cant believe you'd think of KEEPING them, maggots, disgusting, toss them out and burn the trashcan.... " Lysol everything and replace the pieces... but... in reality...it happens more than you think. We get that with our 'sposies pail.... the laundry pile if theres a mess in there I missed... and any time theres funk (puke, hot dogs, etc) that gets lost in a ball of laundry.

Its much cheaper to run the washer a couple of times.. even run it empty if theres still any evidence after the 2nd wash... the maggots are biodegradable.. its natural for their hollow bodies to collapse and flush away..  What do you have to lose, really?

Dont handle them, just dump the bag into the washer in one lump... that way you dont barf....

Good Luck...

Well I saved 1 of two!  The BG was in a bag that was tied really tight and according to DH, there were none.  I SWEAR I saw some (brown dead ones) on the bottom of the bag from the outside but apparently there weren't enough for him to see anything when he opened it.  I washed 2x in cold and 3 in hot plus and extra rinse and 30-45 min soak.  Diapers came out beautiful with Rockin Green!!!

The other one is a goner though, I  looked in there and puked, not only were there probably a half cup of dead maggot shells but there were tons of live ones and it was so stained/molded that I knew there was no way to get that stain out.  So I said f-it, only out 13 bucks plus the pre-fold.  It was my cool stripes thirsties duo so I'll be ordering one!!  Glad I was at least able to save my one though!  Happy LMAO

Well Im super glad that it wasnt a total loss for ya...

So.. Im not familiar with the cloth diapering practices.. a friend of mine does it with a passion... how DO you keep the nappies from being SOO... well... "Nappy"??? Do you put them into something right away? I think she told me once they have a diaper keeper thing and they only wash them once a week...

I am really new to CD (only about 2 months) but now that I have my wet bag I'll keep them there (diaper sprayer to remove poo chunks in the toilet lol) and then I wash about every 3rd day- most CD websites I have read say 2-3 days for washing.
