I don't know that I've been in true ketosis mode; I know I've lost the most weight ever following an Atkins induction diet (but that's only 2 weeks) but it's hard for me to give up coffee and I also need some fruit everyday. I don't drinmk nearly as much water as I should....that's a biggie with no carbs, because you can get constipated easily. But yeah...you're reducing your bad cholesterol and naturally increasing your metabolism. It's good for you, and yeah...based on your pic there---QUICK results, huh?!

I love this egg fritata I make: It's eggs, sausage (crumbled) and some real mozzerella cheese. I also throw in some sliced tomatoes although I think those might have more carbs. It's so good and it fills you up, big time! Snack wise, I agree...beef jerky is the way to go!

That sounds so good! I bet I could use bruscetta or salsa instead of tomatoes too! I was thinking of picking up some jerky or pork rinds(altough I've never tried those so I might not like them). I guess I'm in a bit of a snacky mood today, my appetite is back and I don't feel sick anymore.

You look great N!!!!!!!  What a difference!

Since it doesn't look like you are eating carbs I just want to make sure that you do incorporate some carbs back into your diet so that you don't end up like one of my friends who did the low low carb diet like you are doing.  She did it for a year though to lose quite a bit of weight but her hair fell out, her breath smelled like someone pooped in it, her skin was flakey and dry, her lips would crack no matter how much she would try and hydrate herself with water, etc.  When she went back to try and introduce carbs her body just could not handle it and she ended up with major GI issues.

Like I said though she was very strict about not having more than like 5-10 carbs per day and I was shocked at her weight loss but it ended up ruining her body.  She did do this for quite some time and this doesn't happen to everyone but eat a few veggies that have the good carbs in them and this should happen.  You can also eat whole grains which are soooo benefical for your body and they are still in the form of healthy good carbs.

Keep up the great work!  You look fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, I don't really think it's healthy to go a really long time with super low carbs. I guess I'm sort of following Atkins induction, but I'm also eating a lot of things he doesn't have on the allowed foods list lol. I am only going to be eating this low carb until August 22nd, so two weeks, and then I will be adding fruit and a few whole grains back into my diet.. I love my breads/pastas but I think two weeks isn't too long to go without them, for the results I've had so far.

I think after two weeks of super low carb it's going to be most important to add some things back into my diet while trying to continue eating healthy. I've heard of a lot of people getting sick when they add in carbs too fast or even when they eat sugar after a few weeks without it. So I'll probably start by adding in just some fruit and more veggies.. wait a week or two before trying whole grains.. I just don't want to lose weight and then trigger myself into a binge with bread LOL.

Quinoa is a good grain to have. It has low carb compared to the other grains. I have it instead of rice and sometimes as breakfast.

So I JUST figured out net carbs.. 4 days into the diet lol.. So it's total carbs minus the amount of fiber.. which means there is TONS of low carb bread I found.. I even found some with zero net carbs.. this makes me so excited LOL. I love bread and cereal!! Happy LOL

This is what I do to maintain.  I also add back in oatmeal (good for my cholesterol levels).  And I try and eat it in the morning when my metabolism is at it's best.  I do eat carbs in moderation, but I've realized that I feel much better without them.

I eat more veggies than Atkins allows in the induction stage and then more fruits after induction.  I avoid veggies high on the Glycemic index like corn/carrots.  I love to eat blueberries, strawberries and apples.

That's great that it's working for you!!!

Honestly I would never do it only because I've heard stories of people going back to carbs and gaining their weight back PLUS more!  Not to mention I have little will power, love my pasta and bread and would rather eat and then exercise my butt off!!!  Happy ROFL

The trick is that you're supposed to stay low carb for life after this. Not as low carb as the beginning, allowing grains, fruit, veggies, etc.. but still sticking to a daily limit I believe around 45 to 60 grams of carbs.. People who do any diet and then go back to their old eating habits are going to gain the weight back LOL.. Hence, why I've gone from 110 to 130 to 95 to 110 to 130 again, back to 100 then 120 all the way up to 150 then 120 and then up to 130, etc.. I lose weight, and then decide it's time to go back to junk food.. and it ALWAYS comes back. Sad

Ohhh but my favourite food.. pizza!! I'm having some SUPER CRAVINGS today. It's annoying!

I do try to do this and I am working out also.  It does work, but it is so hard for me!  I love your attitude though N, about a lifetime change.  I don't think of it as dieting, but that I am going to eat healthy and try to keep sugar and bad carbs out of my life (except for once in a while!)

That's what I'm trying to think LOL. I keep reminding myself 9 more days and I can fill up my pantry with low carb breads, fill my fridge with fruit and more yummy veggies! I have found a lot of really helpful recipes online, which is nice but I am going crazy with carb cravings today. I can't WAIT to buy a low carb pizza crust and make pizza... then again, I did find that cauliflower pizza recipe that is allowed on super low carb diets!

Tonight I'm making chicken wings(breaded with crumbled pork rinds and fried.. then smothered in zero carb honey barbeque sauce!) and mashed garlic cauliflower.. it better help the junk cravings!

Oh yeah.. and I just made a giant metamucil/sugar free koolaid drink to fill myself up.. it was yummy and I need it! Surprise

See, I just don't think I could stick with it and would blow up like a balloon!!

I guess even whole wheat pizza is out of the question then?!?  DH and I make our own pizza with whole wheat flour, low calorie cheese, marinara sauce and pepperoni with onions and mushrooms and it is only 218 calories per slice!!!

Actually, I think a few slices would be okay once you're in maintainance and if you're using net carbs instead of total carbs. So using a low carb pizza crust... that's 13 carbs - 10 g fiber. Cheese has no carbs, even a lot of cheese would have very few carbs. There is a brand that makes zero carb marinara(I have some coming todayHappy LOL). Then, pepperoni is also no carbs. Cup of onions would be 15 grams of carbs, minus 3 grams of fiber.. A cup of mushrooms is 2 grams of carbs and 1 gram of fiber. The entire pizza would have 16 net carbs, and fit fine into someone's diet if they're eating 45 to 60 grams a day! Meaning, you could eat the WHOLE pizza yourself and still be able to eat 29 to 44 more grams of carbs LOL. Or you could just eat a slice or two, which would be about 4 net carbs each if you cut the pizza into four slices. Oh I can't wait to start following net carbs and increase my carb intake LOL.  I looooove pizza!

I LOVE Garlic Mashed Cauliflower.  My DH likes it because it makes him feel like he's eating mashed potato.

Also, Spaghetti squash is a good alternative to pasta.  It's a big squash, but you cook it and use a fork to scoop out the insides that look like noodles.  I get a no sugar added marinara and add meat for a full spaghetti meal.

Once you lose the carb cravings (after the first week or so) it really isn't hard to keep your diet lower carb.  It just takes time to get your body used to the change.  I always get a carb withdrawal headache the first few days I get started.
