I was due on friday the 22nd of January, but that day came and went...
On saturday the 23th I had planned a long walk into town but that went down the pan when I thought my waters were leaking. Got my waters checked and was gutted to find that it was only increased discharge. Anyhow I planned alsorts for the next day!
Sunday the 24th came and I walked for two hours solid into town, around town and back. When I arrived home I decided to hoover the whole house from top to bottom, had some tea then had a nice hot bath in some oil called rescue (I bought this in town that day because it had got evening primrose in it). When I got out the bath I also rubbed some of the oil on my belly. Chilled out for the rest of the night and finally got my partner to dtd with me after whinging that other peoples partners were willing lol I watched abit of telly in bed and went to sleep about 11pm with alittle bit of backache, but that backache rang a bell... I remembered that pain lol
I woke up on monday the 25th at 2.30am needing a wee, got back into bed and that backache was still there but with some sort of painful contractions. I tried to ignore them and get back to sleep, but from 3.30am they were coming every 5-7 minutes but some irregular. I was up and down like a yoyo, I just couldn't lay still. I woke my partner and warned him that I though I was in labour at about 5am ish, and he said "well are you or not"? My response was "yes im in labour" lol. I went downstairs and made myself a cup of tea and took it back to bed to try and get abit more sleep. I never managed any but the alarm went off at 7am to get kids up for school but me and partner laid in bed until 8am lol. We decided it was time to get up...
We told the kids when they get home from school we should have baby with us. As soon as we got out of bed my contractions got more painful and more regular. I told my partner to get the boys to school and drop my girl and his nans. He started to worry alittle when he started timing my contractions at 8.45am and they were coming every 2-3 minutes. I made him take the boys to school anyway while I rang the midwifery unit who said they would get a midwife to ring me. Anyhow, we had planned to drop my daughter off on the way to hospital but it didn't pan out like that... I went to the toilet as I needed a poo (tmi) but I felt something coming out the front... I shouted to my partner "babies head, I think babies head is coming"! He went in to panic mode and rang for an ambulance, He was made to lay me down and have a look, at this point he thought he would have to deliver baby lol. However an ambulance was on its way, I could hear the sirens lol I felt so silly as I clicked it was my water sack bulging. Two paramedics came in checked me over, then another paramedic turned up and suddenly they were 3 in my living room. Then the midwife phoned my mobile as she had tried ringing my landline but it was busy lol, The paramedics was getting ready to take me to the hospital at this point, but the midwife told my partner to tell the paramedics to keep me at home as she was on her way. The midwife turned up at 9.40 ish and asked my partner to take my daughter to our friends across the road. She also said I don't think you'll be having this baby anytime soon lol and checked my baby and blood pressure which was alittle high because my partner put me on my back. Midwife did an internal and said your a good 4-5 cms, but wanted a contraction which was coming on as she spoke at which point she said yep your a good 8cms contracting. At this point she asked me to get up and move around and asked if I wanted a home birth or to go to hospital... She said if we go now in the ambulance we should just make it (hospital is only 5-10mins in car) But I opted for a home birth, so paramedics ran around getting protective sheets and pads out of the ambulance, while my partner ran around collecting towels and midwife got equipment ready. I went to put some bottoms on as I had been laid with nothing covering my bits for the past half hour. I got downstairs and everything was ready for me and the paramedics left and midwife contacted another midwife to come and assist her. By now it was 10am and my contractions were coming thick and fast and midwife offered gas and air which I refused, I wanted all natural. I took my bottoms off again and got on my knees as by now my water bag was bulging between my legs (tmi) about to burst. My waters went at 10.05am and baby was following, I needed to push, at 10.07 (just 2 minutes after my waters went) my baby was born in my living room weighing 7lb 12oz and 51 cms long. Another midwife arrived to assist only to see me craddling my beautiful baby girl. My total labour was 2 hours 15 minutes from start to finish ( because others irregular) Although if I had got up earlier I think she would have been born sooner. God bless them paramedics for all there protective sheets, I never got anything on my cream carpet.
It was so wonderful to have my baby at home, no rushing around, able to relax on my own sofa and have my parnter do everything for me. My unplanned homebirth was such an amazing experience which I will never forget.
Babies face and ears were alittle swollen and bruised due to the quick birth but has gone down loads since but is alittle jaundice because of afew burst blood vessels because of birth. Other than that she is doing great, breastfeeding like a trooper and has even put on 1 1/2 oz since birth.
