Yesterday I had a d and c as our baby died at 9 weeks, while i was pregnant i was concerned to be tested for hcg, progesterone levels etc, doctors said no. Now "I have had 3 misscarriages they might listen, the surgeon said she was sending off the d and c tissue to test for a placenta problem. I keep reading on here about all sorts if tests and reasons why this pregnancy was not successful, the docs wont help, ive not even been given a follow up appointment. Help?

UPDATE I finally found a doctor locally who was willing to talk about progesterone and testing for whether i need it, getting me a private test if needed, he listened and didnt patronise me omg, also got some results back: thyroid-normal, blood count - normal, microscopic level of fetus normal (although the chromazome tests are not back yet but he said something about they were checking for a mole but its all normal???? he said after all the results come back if im not happy he will refer me privatly. My question is i might have just ovulated and could be 2 dpo, so i would need a progesterone level done at 7dpo? can i do this online?

I'm so sorry for your loss. I would go to your doctor and demand that they run some tests. I hope you get some answers soon.

I would call them back until you get answers.  Make them do bloodwork. I wondered about placental issues too since 9wks is when the placenta is taking over if I remember correctly.  Maybe do some research on what type of testing can be done so you know what to ask for.   The Dr's in the US are bad about dismissing patients too. They are too busy.  I have found you have to advocate for yourself and be a pest if necessary.   I really hope you find some answers.

I'm really sorry you are having to go through this.

I'd just make an appt with the doc and ask them to run all the usual tests, they KNOW they have to test you after 3 m/c. You will also hear back from the hospital with your results and maybe offered an appt there? Def go to your GP though so they don't forget about you.

I'm sad for you and really wish this hadn't happened. I hope you get some answers soon.

I had 3 succesfull pregnancies, then 3 consecutive misscarrages, I too am from the uk and asked my GP what could be done? All I was told was, they wouldn't do anything for me because I had already carried 3 pregnancies to term !!!! I did eventually fall pregnant and fingers crossed all ok.

I totally understand your frustration, I felt like I had no support at all when I had my misscarrages, the GP told me that 1 in 4 women misscarry, as if that was meant to make me feel better !!! Angry

Consultant said: MTHFR causes miscarriage after 12 weeks not before so he doesnt need to test- is this true?

They are doing full autoimmune tests, APA, ANA, ETA, RIP, KNa, LAC, PTT, PT

he said if i have carried one baby to term progestone isnt my problem, he didnt want to talk about that, dismissed it.???

they took 5 loads of blood and i have another app at hemotology for blood clotting tests APS and hemoglobin tests the full works, they will check thyroid too. I didnt have to have an internal, just bloods, he doesnt think anything is wrong but if there is it will show up on these tests and i could be treated,

he asked if we were trying again, i said yes, he said no problem, just relax, stop taking prenancy tests to watch your hcg and he will write with results. I feel so relieved finaly im getting listened to and thanks girls for all the advice and on other posts, he told me he would do tests I asked what he started to name a few, I then gave him my huge list on ingender and he said yes to all of them bar the MTHFR and progesterone.

oh Lou that is Great news!!!  I'm so glad you have found a Doc that listens.   I agree about not testing for MTHFR, but I'm not sure about progesterone.  As you age your body changes so I honestly believe you could have a progesterone issue even though you didn't with your DD.  My mom had 3 healthy pg and then she lost 2 because of a progesterone issue before having her 4th.

Keep us updated!

You can wait until you get a bfp and then ask to have your progesterone level checked. Agree

I really hope you can do that soon!!!

Make them check your progesterone next time.  It irks me they are telling you that.

I had 2 pregnancies. Then had 2 miscarriages lost both those babies at 8 wk 6 days and 10 wk 2 days did not find out with either until about a week and a half later.  With my 3rd DS I was put on prometrium due to low progesterone. I am also on prometrium again this pregnancy.

It cannot hurt at all so I have no idea why they are so rude to you about it and will not test it for you...argh...sorry again frustrated for you! hugs, hon. I am glad you are getting some answers.

You can develop a progesterone deficiency at any point, so it's certainly worth looking into.

I disagree about MTHFR. Firstly, there is a LOT that is not understood about MTHFR and the effects on pregnancy. For your Dr. to tell you it 'causes m/c after 12 weeks' is flat out wrong. The truth is, MTHFR has never been proven to *cause* m/c, but we do know one of the symptoms is RPL. NONE of the literature I've read on the subject has ever qualified that with gestation of the RPL. I can tell you that in my family, between my myself, my mother and her sister, we have experienced everything from difficulty getting pregnant to blighted ovums to second trimester loss. Can we attribute all of these to MTHFR? No, of course not, but it's a genetic issue and we've all experienced RPL, so, you do the math. I personally feel like if they're going to test for everything else, why not that? The treatment, if you had it, is quite easy so why leave it to chance? The other thing is that MTHFR affects your homocysteine levels and those fluctuate over time anyway, so just because you've had a previous successful pregnancy (or two) doesn't mean MTHFR can't pose a problem for you in the future, kwim? In addition to knowing if you have the genes, you also need to know your fasting homocysteine as that will be the indicator for how your body is handling the condition.
