Well I 1st wanted to say hiHappy I was very surprised when I found this board!!!!

Ok, now my question. I was talking to a friend of mine who is also TTC & she mentioned that she is going to try to get a CVS done because an Amino is not likely. I was wondering if this is really a possible. I know what it is done for & usually done on women over 35. I would love to TTC a little girl that is why I love this site cause I am going to try some of the things!!! We have a great little boy who is going to be 7 this December so a girl would be a great BUT of course we would be happy with either sex!!!

I think it would be so great to find out at 10wks but I really wonder if a docter would do a CVS on someone who is in there mid 20's and already has had a healthly baby? One thing I was thinking is that I have NO family history.....I am not kidding both my Mom's parents were adopted & it was closed & she does not have contact with. When it comes to my Dad......well he died when I was a toddler & I have no contact with his family.

My hubby family has a history of lung cancer but other then that for the most part if full of healthly babiesHappy

What do you think?

First let me say hi and welcome!!

I don't know how strict the doctors are in your area but you might be able to find a doctor who  is willing to do the CVS. The reason they do not like to do one if you are under 35 is that the risk of miscarriage is higher than the risk that there will be something wrong with your baby. Especially since you say that there is no history of genetic disorders or Downs Syndrome. (lung cancer would not be something they would test for so it would not be part of the equation) Usually they are looking for Downs Syndrome, trisomy 18, trisomy 13, extra X's or Y's, missing X's or Y's etc....

Good luck with your swaying attempt!!! There is lots of great info on this sight!!!

Personally I wouldn't want to get a CVS or an amnio unless I absolutely had to. I think the risk of miscarriage is probably much lower than the published number because now technology is so much better and these tests are more common, but why take any chances at all?

Hi there, and welcome!  I had two amnios done, but it was because of my age (over 35). At your age, and with your history (albeit limited), I doubt you'd find a doctor willing to do either a CVS or an amnio.  And, frankly, I would NOT feel comfortable with any doctor who WAS willing to do it - you just have none of the risk factors that would warrant it so I would be highly suspicious of any doctor who agreed to do it.  The CVS miscarriage rate is double that of amnio as well, so in my mind it is absolutely not worth it (although the rate is very low).  So what do you do if you don't want to wait until an 18-20 week u/s, because that is SO long to have to wait?!  I'd go to one of those mall places at 15 weeks - that isn't all that long after the CVS is done (it can be done safely after 11 weeks, NOT at 10 weeks) and is exactly when amnios are done. So you aren't really missing anything by avoiding those invasive tests.  I was told gender with absolute certainty at 15 weeks with two of my kids, so while it's not a sure thing, it's a pretty good bet you can find out.  So once you're pregnant, that would be my suggestion rather than try to shop around for a doctor to do a test you won't qualify for.  Good luck to you!!
