FYI: I had a nuchal translucency u/s at 12 weeks exactly. During that u/s I could have sworn that I saw boy parts(not necessarily the "turtle," but definitely something protruding between the legs). I was very excited because after two daughters, a boy was what we were praying for. When I asked the tech, she said, "Well it does look like something, but I can't say for sure because sometimes at this stage a penis and clitoris can look pretty similar" However, on one of the pics she put an arrow and typed in "What is this??????" She definitley got my hopes up for a boy.
Well after talking to many friends, I learned that I should not have been too excited because they all said it was way too early to tell. Still, I couldn't get the notion out of my head that the tech thought something WAS there too. At my regular 17 week appt, I was so bummed that I was put into the room w/out the ultrasound machine. I begged my OB to give me an u/s because I was just dying to know the sex of my baby.
She so nonchalantly answered, "What do you mean? Didn't you find out at your 12 week nuchal u/s?"
I then told her that I thought it looked like there was something between the legs, but that I'd also been told by everyone that it was just too early to tell.
She said, "Well everyone isn't up to date on the latest technology available."
She also said that she found out the sex of both her babies at 12 weeks, and if the tech and I thought we saw boy parts, then she'd put money on the fact that it was a boy. Well, I still took this w/ a grain of salt as I didn't want to get my hopes up too high and then be let down.
We had the big u/s at 19 weeks and found out it was indeed a boy.
I hope this helps some of you who are in the crazed state of mind I was in
.
