My husband and I would like to add MS to our cycle but cant decide if we should cycle locally with Frozen Microsorted Sperm or at GIVF with Freash MS sperm???.  Locally my RE has only performed 10 gender cases and only 3 of those were frozen MS sperm.  2 out of the 3 women did get pregnant with the MS sperm...but come on doesnt that seem low!!!!  My current RE says to look at GIVF's stats and to base my choice on comparing their stats to GIVF's. For my agr range GIVF's pregnancy rates are 27% and my local clinic's are 43%...I do agree the success rates are higher at my local clinic but not everything is black and white and it doesnt take into consideration my local clinics lack of using frozen Ms sperm.

Please help me ladies in your opinions on what to do?  Go with GIVF (who has higher experience with MS  but lower success rates) -OR- go with local clinic who has higher sucess rate but low experience working with MS ???  I know it almost seems like a no brainer here but I just want to hear what everyone here would do and what your experiences were. Travel to GIVF is not that big of an issue for us as we would make a vacation out of it.

Thank you all :)

If I had been eligible for IVF, I would have used frozen MS sperm at my local clinic.  It just seemed so much easier than having monitoring done locally and then sent to GIVF and then having to travel for the actual proceedure.

i am dealing with the same thing but am leaning more towards frozen bc the clinic i am considering has a higher success rate then givf/comparable to HRC and is much less $ for IVF and travel cost would be minimal. For us cost is an issue, I can't go spending countless amounts of dollars on this and this one seems to offer us the most for our money.Dr Potter said that basically frozen MS sperm is considered a low sperm count sample and many clinics have dealt with frozen low sperm count samples and how to thaw them accordinly. This clinic is a collaborator and has used MS sperm before also. I know this sounds corny but I have always thought of it like fresh veggies verses frozen: yes fresh is probably better but frozen can be just as good too. Silly! It is a hard decision but there have been quite a few girls who have had frozen MS cycles and had success. Maybe they can also give some advice.

I agree and am hoping other girls here who have either done a Frozen MS cycle or Fresh MS cycle will share their advice and experiences.  Thank you all in advance.

I personally think the pregnancy stats are a big deal.  You also have to look at the average number of embies transferred as to how they get to that number.  Especially with FET's.  There are some big differences.  They just have to know that MS sperm once dethawed is like severe male-factor sperm- it isn't going to fertilize on its own, so of course ICSI must be used.  I would be inclined to cycle local.

I had the decision made for me in that the closest fertility clinic is HRC lol but if it hadn't been I would go local if I was doing IVF/PGD. If I was doing MS though I would strongly consider going to GIVF/HRC to use fresh. From what I understand stats can be different due to the kind of patients clinics take. For example one clinic might have lower numbers because they take more challenging cases. For someone like you, that doesn't struggle with infertility and you are strictly going for gender selection the % should be higher.

Maybe consult with GIVF and ask them directly about why the numbers are so much lower and go from there.

Does anybody know what kind of process GIVF uses to freeze MS sperm samples?  Is it Vitrification or slow-freeze?  I'm inclined to assume its slow-freeze since that is the cheaper method and it would go a long way to explain why the MS sample post thaw is of such poor quality/motility.

I know with egg freezing vitrification has a 90% survival rate whereas slow-freeze only has 30-40% survival/thaw rate due to the formation of ice crystals. The same is probably true with sperm.
