I hope I'm using the correct terms here...but I am deciding if I want to just wait until baby arrives and see how big he/she is and if I'd need to get some disposable diapers (yuck!) to use for a while until baby fits into my Nubunz pocket one-size diapers, OR if I should buy some prefolds and use those.  Then I saw a post on here from someone who made a prefold diaper into a "fitted" style.

I'm *very* interested in purchasing 24 newborn sized prefold/fitted diapers.  I'd make them myself but I am no good on a sewing machine.

I saw on eBay you can buy 12x16" chinese prefolds with a thickness of 4x6x4 for $29.99.  They're bleached, which I was also wondering about -- is that a bad thing?  Or should I look for unbleached?  Or doesn't it matter since you'd wash them before use anyway?

Anyway, even if you don't make them if you have advice on what type of prefold to buy I'd appreciate it :).  And if you do make them, let me know here and I'll PM you.  THANKS!!!!

EDIT: Also, do you need a cover if you add an insert or two in it?  What are the best way to get the dipaer to stay on -- snappi's?  If you do need a cover, what's the best/cheapest option?

my favorite prefolds are little lion prefolds.  http://www.little-lions.com/page3.html

They have a great price too!!

Snappis are great.  They really help keep most/all the poo off the cover.

I think you will still need a cover with prefolds.

I really like thirsties covers.  They work well, and they have a decent price.

threelittlecubs - Wow! Thanks for all the info :).  I'll save those links!

Any idea on what is better, or if there is no difference after washing between bleached and unbleached?  I saw on the lion site they have both kinds and was just curious if one was better or not.

Thanks again!

I make a flannel fitted diaper with a pocket "Rita's Rump Pocket"  that you can add velcro or just use a diaper pin. I stuff 2 prefolds in for my toddler. Pretty simple. I use Gerber plastic pull ons for the cover. Just type in Rita's Rump Pocket diaper for a free pattern to download.

I like the unbleached best.  They are softer and they hide stains better.Agree

Another cover that I just started liking is the booroi cover.  They have them at momsmilkboutique.  You can just lay the prefold in the cover without a snappi.  You can do that with the thirties too.

threelittlecubs - that looks like a nice cover!  I'm trying to take the cheapest way out for doing CDs as baby is a newborn since hopefully I'll have a bigger baby and he/she will fit in the one-size CDs after not much time which will make life easier.

I found some dappi diaper covers on ebay that were affordable, so I'll probably get those if baby is small.

I would personally wait to spend any money on newborn size cloth, until you see what baby weighs. You may have an 8 lb baby who can go right into the Nubunz. If you do need smaller dipes for awhile, you can use disposables while you order your prefolds.

My best friend uses these:

"I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that grow up around [the banks] will deprive the people of all property until their children wake up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered. The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs" -Thomas Jefferson
