Hi everyone! I am mom to two beatiful boys (ages 5 and 13 months)  I love with all my heart. And I feel so guilt ridden, but my whole self aches and longs for a girl, I cannot imagine my life without a daughter, especially as close as I am to my mother.

I came across this site while researching Microsort. I have so many feelings and apprehensions!!! I am close to turning 37 and had ZERO problem conceiving my boys. But is there am an age cutoff? I just don't even know what direction to turn. Do I need fertility drugs/treatment for conception? Are there any decent odds for only IUI? Has anyone done IUI with frozen? I live in Minnesota so I don't know how I would plan to jump a plane at the precise moment Confused

Any thoughts of you experiences/stories would be truly appreciated! I look forward to being a member of "moms who feel like me" Hearts

Thank you all!!!

Welcome!  You can either do MS/IUI or MS/IVF(with or without PGD for veification).  You cannot use frozen sperm for IUI it must be fresh. With IVF, you may use frozen or fresh.  40 is the cutoff for MS.  Yes, you do need drugs for both.  You can do IUI with just clomid though. IVF is a whole different ballgame when it comes to meds.  Just read up on here, go back through the threads and you can start to get an idea how things work.  Oh and you have to go to California(HRC) or Virginia(GIVF) for MS/IUI.  Good luck!

Welcome! Try to give yourself a break on the guilt. Most of us here feel or felt the exact same way. We totally understand how you can love your boys with all your heart but still long for a girl.

I conceived my daughter with MS/IUI at age 38. She is five months old now. As the previous poster said, you need to use fresh sperm for IUI, which means it has to be done at HRC in California or GIVF in Virginia. You actually can do MS/IUI without any fertility drugs, but I wouldn't recommend it. I tried that the first time, and I did not get pregnant. There are some natural cycle successes here, but it's a lot of money for a very slim chance of it working. Even with drugs, the chance of pregnancy is pretty low, but I was lucky to have it work for me with Clomid and an Ovidrel trigger shot. Timing the travel is hard. We made a family vacation out of it and spent a week going to Disneyland, Legoland, and the beach. We planned our trip trying to time it so my IUI would be in the middle, but it ended up being the day before we flew home. If you plan a few days on either side of when you expect to ovulate, it should work out.

My whole MS/IUI journey is here: http://in-gender.com/cs/forums/p/52794/480482.aspx#480482

I hope that is helpful to you. Good luck with your decision!

Hello and welcome!  I did an iui with injectibles at GIVF in August at the age of 38 and got pregnant.  It is a bit of a hassle planning the travel.  Luckily my parent's kept our three boys and my husband and I had a nice weekend vacation.  There are three airports nearby so finding a flight was easy, even on short notice.   We were only gone for two nights and honestly if necessary could have shortened it to one.  I know the pregnancy stats for iui are low, but it does happen, even at 38.  Goodluck!

Thank you for your reply! If you don't mind me asking, I really am quite clueless on the cost of things. I know it's all on the MS website and I have emailed tham, but it's just not very clear to me (I need someone to hit me over the head LOL!Happy Smile I need to find out from someone how much the fertility drugs are and for how long. And when I emailed MS the reply was "The overall cost will depend on the type of IUI cycle you will go through" what does that mean???Confused And everone in the business is vague on actual costs. I just know we don't have the cash to do IVF, especially when I have conceived easliy.

How did you know EXACTLY when to fly out? I'm so afraid I'd miss the big event and fly out from Minnesota for nothing!

Thanks for your help and congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!

I completely understand your fear of not getting there in time, as I had the same fear.  You do not have to worry about missing ovulation because you will be monitored by a local fertility doc, who will let you know when your eggs are nearing maturity.  Also, I was given a trigger shot which causes you to ovulate within 24 to 36 hours.  My husband gave it to me in the airport terminal while we were waiting for our plane to arrive.   Everything is timed as accurately as possible so the iui can be performed at the right time.

I do want to add that with my first cycle, i did clomid and did not get a trigger shot.  I got pregnant but miscarried.  The second Iui, I did injectibles and was given a trigger shot.  I believe the trigger shot really helped with the timing of ovulation.

As far as cost goes, each trip including travel, hotel and food cost about $5 to $6000.  The second iui was the more expensive trip because I was on injectible meds which cost over $1000.

I know everything  seems confusing and scary, but once you start the process, it is easier than you think.  Good luck with everything and feel free to ask any questions you have, and please keep me posted on your cycle plans.

You are too kind! Thank you so much for your help!!! What are injectable meds? What's the difference between them and Clomid? I am really afraid of multiples, but I really need/pray it will work the first time...

Injectables are shots which have a higher success rate with MS/IUI.  Clomid is a pill and not as strong as injections and doesn't have as good of success rate but the chance of multiples is lower.
