I really want a black pug puppy. Are they good with kids?? Little kids?? (youngest is 2yrs old up to 19yrs old) are they easy to train?? I work from home so he/she wouldn't be left alone much. Anyone have any info to share?? And if you are in Ontario Canada any good places to buy??? LOL

THANKS in advance

Pugs, for being small dogs, are typically very good with kids. They do shed, but they have short hair. They can be a little noisy (all breeds with smooshed faces have that tendency when they breath/snore) We don't have one yet, but that'll be our next dog because we have friends who've all had really good experiences with them. Please do not buy a dog - too many need homes. Be a hero - rescue your pug!

Contact one of these organizations and please give a good dog a second chance:

Thank you so much for the links! there is a dog on one of the sites named Kenny who I WOULD LOVE!! He looks so crazy with his tongue haning out! Perfect for my crazy family but I dont' think he is available yet. I even like his name hahaha! And for some crazy reason I am drawn to a male black plug over a female. (no reason but I picture us with a male dog more, but would take a female if she is who lead us to her first.)

You should send a PM to pugsnkids - she's a GREAT lady on this site who has seven boys and lots of pugs!  They're in all her pics. They're adorable!!

My parents have a pug and it sheds LIKE CRAZY!!  Lots of people (including me) are allergic to the pug dogs hair also.  If you don't mid vacuuming every day go for it.  They also snore loudly and if you live in a climate with high heat and humidity keep that in mind also. Pugs have problems breathing and have difficulties in hot weather.

That being said they are loveable kid friendly dogs. Just high maintenance IMO.

I have a pug and he is the love of my life, lol.  They are the sweetest, most loving dogs around imo.  They are very good with kids and will follow you around and be your very best friend!  They are companion dogs and not cut out for taking jogging etc.  My sweet boy is an over sized, chubby lap dog. :)  He does shed but it is not an insane amount.  The first pug we had did snore like crazy.  Bless his little heart, he died many years ago from cancer.  Our 2nd pug is 6 and we lucked out with him b/c he has never snored.  I would know b/c he sleeps right between dh and I, lol.  I would highly recommend a pug in a house with little kids.

alot of complaints seem to be the shedding. THis normally would really turn me off LOL but I still want one!! I just keep thinking about him (there is one I found just born Nov 1 a black male) and I even have him as a screensaver on my blackberry so I can try and decide if I want to take the plung and the responsiblity.

Snoring doesn't bother me. I am a sound sleeper... dh and I both snore LOL (i say I don't but dh begs to differ) and also we had a pekenise growing up who was the WORSE snorer on earth so dogs who snore remind me of my youth Love Ya!

the ages of my kids are 19yrs, 8yrs, 7yrs, 6yrs in Jan, 4yrs old and 2yrs old.... would a little pup be safe??

It is only now that my dd is 2yrs old that I would even consider a puppy or dog.

This is the little guy I am considering!! Isn't he ADORABLE!! Names on the table are! Ds #1 wants Eli or Milo, Dh wants something I can't pronounce but sounds like Max and Mostofa jammed together, Ds #2,3 and 4 want Ranger or Jethro, ds#5 wants Mario (as in Mario Brothers LOL) and I want Abe, Gus or Leonardo.. dd wants "Baby"Stick out tongue

I think I already love him!! I can't decide!! I can't decide!! Such a big responsiblity!!!

Most dogs shed, so that doesn't turn me off either. I only mentioned it because a lot of people have a tendency to think dogs with very short hair shed less and that's not necessarily true.

That's a cute pup - is he from one of the rescue pages? You're making me want a pug puppy! I started looking at them again a couple weeks ago - when we thought this baby was a girl I was going to get my DH a male dog - LOL. This baby is in fact a boy so no more dogs for now Stick out tongue

We have had a pug and absolutely love them...complaints are shedding, and difficult to potty train and table train.  You can't leave food out anywhere within reach or the dog eats it...those things are garborators, will eat until they throw up.

Right now my parents have a puppy that just turned a year (they got her at 2 months) and she is still not trained to go outside...almost though, and she chews the kids toys like crazy...but hoping that it is just a puppy thing and she will outgrow that.

I say go for it, they are so cuddly and great with kids:)

Do your research, I would recommend a registered pug as there tends to be a lot of inbreeding and they can be quite prone to health problems.

thanks for all the advice!! I am GOING TO NEED IT!!

We are taking him!!!

AHhhhh I hope I can handle it!! I am more afraid getting a dog than I am when I am having a baby!! So much responsiblity!!

I am worried about the shedding, and pooping and training, and chewing up everything. I am!! Makes me scared!!! But I really feel good that we decided to get him. I think I am nuts!!!

He is not from the rescue site. Although I did like the dog Kenny on the Ontario section, he isn't available. (he just looks like he is laughing like a madman LOL so cute!!)

OMG I am going to have a 6th SON!!!! eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeekkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk

Dec 19th we become his forever family! Name is still undecided.
