How to handle older sibling w/new baby at home?

I just got one of my twins home from the NICU today and my DS is all over her, in a sweet way.  But he just wants to touch her all over her face, sometimes pretty roughly, but not on purpose.  He is loving her so much I don't want to ruin it, so how do I tell him no, no, no over and over about messing with her too much?

Maybe get him his own baby doll and let him mimic what you are doing?  That way he could kind of share in the fun of taking care of a baby, but without you having to worry about him always trying to touch?   My parents did this with my littlest brother when my sister was born.

I don't even know what to tell you but I think he'll get less interested by the day. Well, hopefully. It's been so long I can't remember how I dealt with that. Dd is going to be a pain with that I already know. I think the doll idea is good. Idk, you'd think I've never done this before. lol Or maybe my brain just chooses to block that time out. I was a stressed out mess with three babies under 3. Oh man I'm not helping. I'm shutting up now. Sorry.

LOL. I am really sorry about that. How is it going? Is he adjusting better? It may be a good thing they both didn't come home at once so he can adjust and allow you to be able to adjust to 2 without him being SO interested. I am sure it would have been a lot harder with 2 and his curiousity but I am sure it's hard on you to not have them both. She is still in the hospital right? How are they doing?

 Just keep telling him gentle, and show him how to be gentle.  We do this with our one year old and our cats, lol.  Works like a charm. 

Just don't leave him alone with them yet and keep reminding him to be gentle

Well, my boys 5, 4, and 2, have NEVER gotten over their obsession with the baby, and he is 6 months!  The 2 year old is the only one I really have to keep my eye on, because he might accidentally hurt him--he means well, but will try to pick up the baby--yikes.

I think it might be an ongoing thing and something that will make your life just a liiitttlle bit harder.  I just tell myself, at least they like him, want to show him affection, but it does drive me bonkers.  I've pretty much dealt with this with every baby I have brought home.  I just keep him safe,-- with me, doors latched, baby gates, whatever works!

 Ugh!  To make matters worse, DS is now sneezing/sniffling!  It is so hard to keep them separated because he is constantly trying to get to her.  I hope his fascination goes away quickly!  And yes, one is still in the NICU but should be coming home tomorrow or Tuesday!  Then the fun really begins!
