I would love a girl and really want to give it a good shot but gambling $20K on something that might not work is so scary!! I could probably handle half of that if i did not get pg. I always thought we would spend maybe 10ishK and I am having a really tough time right now trying to rationalize 20K if it does not work. I am interested in the micro ivf but wonder if it would be effective? I just don't know if I am being realistic about how much i expect to pay and giving it my best shot? Did anyone else feel this way? We are definetely not wealthy and have debt as it is which I hope to get rid of a lot soon but that much money would really be tough on us. Any one else in/was in the same boat? What did you decide? Thanks

I haven't done it yet, but I'm thinking what you're thinking.  We're thinkin that we'd spend 10k... do two MS/IUIs and PRAY that one (the first one if I'm really lucky) works.

From what I understand, if you don't like gambling, or don't have bottomless pocketbook, don't go high tech.  Some are OHW and some aren't, and there is no telling until you do it.  I'm planning to do it with my 6th child when I will hopefully be in a better financial situation, and can plan on at least two cycles. HTH!

I think like anyting else in life, you shouldn't put yourself or your family in harms way financially to chase anything.  So, get a plan, research your options and make the best decision for you and your family.  I would not do 2 rounds of IUI...I would pick one IVF if you are OK with parting with 10K. You can call around and find places that are less expensive than others.  Micro IVF with MS sounds very interesting for those that want the best shot through IVF( instead of IUI) and don't have the money for a full IVF cycle and should be less meds too.  Look into donating leftovers to get a discount, etc.  Micro IVF with PGD is not a good option IMO b/c there is not enough to work with.  But the MS will add $$ to the Micro IVF costs.

You have to be ready to part with the money no matter what b/c you can't know the outcome.  I think Micro IVF with MS is a great potential option if the places that really offer Micro IVF are willing to use MS sperm.  Good luck!

Yes!  I am having a hard time with spending the money as well.  I wish I was a few years younger, then I would have gone back to work to save.  I am 38 now, so time is running out.  Still trying to decide.

Why is HRC less expensive than GIVF??  Anyone know?

We had a set amount when we started out.

When I cycled it seemed like there were very few OHWs.  I was convinced it would take me 2-3 maybe more cycles.

DH and I agreed upon a set amount and that would be it.  I was lucky, but don't know how my heart of finances would have handled it had I not been lucky.

I know people that have spent upwards of $50K to get their baby.  Some have spent that much and still didn't deliver a baby.  It's such a big huge gamble emotionally and yes, FINANCIALLY.  Hands down the scariest, most risky thing I have ever done in my life.
