Since I am a SAHM and the weather is getting too cold to do anything outside I have to turn to TV for entertainment. And boy it seems like my TV only has two channels: TLC and DHC.
I watch everything: I Didn't Know I Was Pregnant, Bringing Home Baby, A Baby Story, Maternity Ward, Deliver Me, Adoption Stories, Birth Day...
I even applied to be on Bringing Home Baby but they are not filming in my area. It would be cool to be in one if those programs!
I've had this "addiction" when I was pg with DD2 and now it came back full force. Pregnancy is in my brain 24/7

I don't really watch them...they usually show the very medicalized side of birth, portaying it as this dire emergency where mom and baby are always in need of rescue (I get that that is sometimes the case), and not the more natural, intervention-free births. I think the latter just don't make for exciting t.v. as far as the producers are concerned.

Sometimes... but they also show home births, water births and all that. I find it interesting because I've never been through that experience. Like yesterday, I watched a woman delivering a baby girl in her own bed with the help a midwife and the baby got stuck so the mw had to twist the baby while the woman was on all fours with her whole family watching, including her 2-year-old daughter. I must admit that I thought the whole thing was a little weird but still very amusing

Yes, I've seen a few, which is nice, and I wish they would show more.

That sounds like the Gaskin maneuver (named after midwife Ina May Gaskin). I think it's great that they showed that. Just curious why you find it amusing? Because you've never experienced it? Not trying to debate you, just wondering

Im there with u, i watched them more before I was pregnant than when I am. I seem to always turn on the one where the mother is screaming or something dire is going on. I find I get more anxiety watching them than anything else

Because IMO it's a pretty awkward situation to show on TV... Still it's informative and I enjoy learning about all these different types of birth experiences. As I had 2 c-sections and will have another one all I have to do is just lay there and wait to see my baby

The very medicalized side always just makes me more nervous about giving birth. I liked A Baby Story before I got pregnant... kind of hate it now. My hubby did once jokingly propose a drinking game for A Baby Story. (take a shot for "big baby", stuck baby, every time they pit someone, etc.)
