I did MS IVF only, no PGD, and got my DD.  I chose against PGD because I was worried I'd lose too many embryos due to things like "no signals;" "undetermined," and the general trauma of PGD on the embryo.

It was my third cycle, and I don't make many embyros, and I didn't feel I could spare the loss of any of them.  I read a study that showed PGD lowers pregnancy rates.  However, this was 5 years ago now, and I know things have improved a lot in the high-tech world since then.

I first started trying high-tech in 1999, when women on boards like these were doing MS IUI and no more; even MS IUI was considered extreme.  Then I was one of the "first" to go with MS IVF, which was rare to do, in 2000.

These days, PGD is more commonplace.

Anyway, whatever you do, go with either MS IVF or MS IVF PGD, never PGD alone.

I did the PGD b/c if we were doing this much to get PG, I wanted to totally make sure it was a girl!  Go big or go home!  LOL

lol! Happy Smile

I agree w/ that.  However, I do think it's a good idea to see what you have to work w/ before saying you'll do PGD *no-matter what*.  I went into it undecided...  but w/ 31 eggs retrieved, I thought I could/should add the PGD guarantee.  (Fwiw - of my 13 embryos that made it to PGD - 12 were girls.  I had a 90.5% sort).

I think it depends on how many fertilize.  If you have a good number I would definitely do PGD for the guarantee and the chance to check for abnormalities.

I agree with Lilian... if you have a decent amount fertilize than I would do PGD to check for gender.

Otherwise, you could implant an abnormal and not even know it (like and extra X or Y).

Just wanted to update... I had a stimulant check this morning. I am on day 8 of stimulants. I was a little disappointed. I had 3 follicles on one side, and 6 on the other, my biggest was an 11, and only 6 of them were a good size. We talked to the Dr. for a while about PGD. He told us that it does decrease the impanation rate by 10-20%!! To me that is huge. Also that SO many of the ones that come back as “abnormal” really given the chance, could self correct. After much thought (and prayer) we have decided not to go with PGD. I don’t feel I’m going to have enough embryos to spare, and don’t want to lose any to PGD. I want a daughter with all my heart, but seeing how we have a 9 out of 10 chance of getting her, if we end up with another sweet boy, I’ll know that it was REALLY meant to be! LOL.  My Dr bumped my meds up really high (8  vials of Bravelle a night!! 600mg!) , and took me off the Lupron. I have my next check on Monday. He said he is thinking I’ll have the ER on either Thursday or Friday. I have been telling myself all day, it only takes one! One of the biggest concerns we had about IVF was what to do with any “left over” embryos after our family was complete, so I’m trying to tell myself I don’t need a ton… but it is so hard to not hope for frozen embryos for the “just in case”…. Such a rock and a hard spot. I’m just trying to be positive and tell myself it is going to work the first time, and it will be nice to not have a bunch of frozen “totcycles” to decide what to do with!!

Sounds like you have a plan.  We have seen many BFP's with smaller number of eggs.  And to have MS, that is great.  Good luck to you!
