Did MS, should I do PGD too??/
|
|
Hi ladies. I’m new here, and need some advice. I’m doing IVF right now; I should have my ER early next week. I have 3 beautiful boys, and want a daughter SO SO SO much! We went down to Laguna Hills a few weeks ago, and had MS done. The sample is being shipped today to my RE. They told me today my sample is 89% pure. I’m really on the fence about doing PGD too. I feel pretty good about 90% odds, but what about that 10%? I know for one it will depend on how many embryos I get, we are transferring two, so if we only get 2-4 there would be no point… how many of you have gone with ONLY MS (not PGD as well) Have you all gotten the desired gender?? Help me decide!

You can wait and see how many embies fertilize and go from there. Also, if you really want the guarantee, then I would do PGD. An opposite shouldn't happen but it could. If you have a decent number to work with, I would want the guarantee. I have 3 of the same already too so I want a guarantee. But that's me. You have to decide what is best for you. Good luck with your cycle!

It all depends on if you will be ok with an opposite.
I did what you did, IVF with MS shipped to my local RE. Of 19 eggs, only five fertilized even using ICSI!! I too had the choice to go ahead and skip PGD...however, I did not want an opposite. I had 1 normal male, 3 abnormal female, and one normal female that arrested. I believe that if we would have skipped PGD, my normal male would have made it in me....obviously he was the strongest. I really cannot know that for sure, but it makes me feel better about my choice....not that there is much to feel good about doing an IVF cycle with no transfer.
If you are OK with another boy, skip pgd. If not, do it.

I think it depends on how many fertilize. If you have a good number I would definitely do PGD for the guarantee and the chance to check for abnormalities. I had 2 hatching blasts. One tested + for Downs . . . would've transferred without PGD (and I wasn't that concerned about abnormalities, because I was 29, no history of miscarriage, etc.). On the other hand, my sort % was about 91% and all of them were female.

ITA I did the PGD b/c if we were doing this much to get PG, I wanted to totally make sure it was a girl! Go big or go home! LOL
3 DS & one sweet baby girl through MS/PGD/IVF

My situation is very similar to yours except I am having my ER in early Dec. My DH will also be flying to Laguna Hills for MS and then the sample will be shipped back to our local RE. I also have three boys. I personally would go the PGD route as I really only want a girl and I have seen opposites on this board. I am still strongly considering whether we should have DH go to Cali for MS though. What state are you cycling in? Good luck and hope everything goes well!

I am in Utah, My RE said to do MS for sure, because he has seen many do IVF with PGD only, and end up with all (or at least the most healthy) be the undesired gender.

this is my feeling exactly. although, for me it was the other way around - already decided on PGD/IVF and wondering if we should do MS too (which we did).

I wanted the guarantee. FWIW, I also did MS had an 82% sort and ended up with all girls. You have to decide if the slight chance of an opposite is something you are willing to risk. I think its a good idea to see how many fertilize. Good luck!!!

August 2009 HRC MS/PGD/IVF- BFP!!!!!

I would definitely do PGD. You've come this far, go for the guarantee!

MS/PG/IVF Cycle #1 - Transferred 3 blasts on 10/6/08 - BFN MS/PG/IVF Cycle #2 - Transferred 2 blasts on 3/25/09 - chemical pregnancy MS/PG/IVF Cycle #3 - Transferred 2 on 7/5/09 - BFP! 8/11 - 1 healthy singleton with a strong HB! She is due 3/22/10!

It's a really long story. MS said they had never seen results like that, which is so untrue. I talked to a lady who sorted for a boy and she had all female embryos. Anyway, MS blamed it on the PGD lab. The PGD lab blamed it on MS. I tried to get my PGD slides retested, but was unable to. I fought with both sides for over a year trying to find answers, but was never able to. No one wanted to take responsibility, and both sides tried their hardest to hide who may have been at fault. I finally had to move on, and decided not to use MS again. With my second cycle, I had 7 embryos go to PGD. All were normal. 4 boys and 3 girls. I transferred 2 girls and froze 1 boy and 1 girl. The other 3 boys didn't make it to freeze.

I had an 89.9% sort and I am pregnant with a boy....That being said there has been A LOT of success with sort % lower than ours so it's really all luck. If you have enough embies I would go for PGD... I only had 3 & 4 for my cycles so I never did PGD. I know hindsight is 20/20 but I also know that if I had done PGD I would not be pregnant right now. Good luck! I know how hard the decision is.
MS/IVF #1 10/07 BFN MS/IVF #2 08/08 chemical/miscarriage FET 04/09 Holy Moley it's a BFP! It's a boy -- not what I had wanted, but hopefully just what I need. "Every adversity, every failure, every heartache carries with it the seed of an equal or greater benefit."
