Diet and too much weight loss

I'm not ttc till May but I've tried playing around with the diet. That in combination with being sick I have dropped 8 pounds over the last month and I'm well below where I started when I got pregnant with DS. The problem is, I'm on cd20 and have no signs of ovulation yet. When I was ttc #1, after several tests and months of charting/trying, my OB recommended weight gain and boom, that did the trick. So I'm worried that if I continue this diet I will lose so much that I stop ovulating altogether. All I know is that when I gained weight before I had my son so I'm torn. I know the diet is super important but at this rate I will never be able to conceive at all much less conceive a DD. What should I do?

I'm in the same boat as you...I lost AF for a year because I was too underweight when I was younger...I know that I shouldn't get below 105, so I'm going to keep steady at 115 and then plan to lose 5 or 10 lbs. when ttc'ing.

Sorry to hear you're in the same boat. It's great to lose weight except when stuff like this happens. The same thing happened to me in high school. My weight hovered around 100 and I only had 2-3 AFs a year for about 5 years. For me, if I'm under 130 my cycles get extra screwy. I'm at about 127 right now. I was 139 when I conceived DS. I don't love being that weight but it's what it takes that's what it takes. My mom even commented the other day, "you're going to have to put some weight back on if you want to get pregnant again."  I think I'm going to have to quit the gender diet right now and only do it when it really counts.

I agree with that 100%.  And anyway, there is no need to do the IG now. It's better to shock your body anyway, so I would only do it for 6 weeks before your attempt, and drop the major forbidden foods 12 weeks before. That's what I'm gonna do.

I'm only 5'2, but in college I got down to a scary 94 lbs...I lost AF completely until I got to exactly 110 lbs...but that took about a year.  Not that it is hard for me to gain weight, I just didn't "want" to...kwim?  I actually had to take anti-depression/anxietly pills just so I would feel ok gaining the weight.  So, I'm afraid to go below 110, but honestly I think I would be ok at 105 if I lost it slowly.  Losing weight too quickly will impair fertility more than losing it slowly.

Right now I'm like 120 Doh!, not happy about that though...want to get back down to 115.  Then I will try and stay at that weight until about 12 weeks before ttc'ing.  I was trying to maintain at 115, but was having trouble...never had to maintain before, always wanted to lose! haha...so I unsuccessfully maintained and started gaining...whatever, not gonna beat myself up over it, just will lose it, that;s all :)

best of luck and feel free to pm me if you ever need to chat!  I'm also ttc'ing in May so I think we will have A LOT in common!! :)

Happy Wink, we will definitely be able to chat and help eachother then with our plans, especially the weight loss issue.  I've been worried about that actually, so that'll be really good to have someone who can relate! :)

Oh I didn't even realize that at first ;)....yep, only a month apart, if that

I think it'll be nice to have a 2 and 1/2 - 3 year age difference between my Ds and my next child.  If we have more children (which I hope we do) we'll probably try and space them closer in age.

It's just so hard taking care of one, two is going to be fun! haha...but it'll be nice for Ds to have someone to play with and "take" care of.  I think he'll really enjoy having a brother or sister and can't wait to give him one!  It'll be so amazing to watch the two of them interact and eventually play together.  Really looking foward to that :)

hey girls!  i'm in the same boat as you.  i've always struggled to keep weight on (due to different ED issues & high metabolism)  i lost AF Sr yr HS & about 2 yrs in college.  b/c was the only way i got it back.  before each DS, i really tried to gain weight to conceive (hello boy diet!)

now, i hover btn 120-125 (i'm 5'5") which is such an improvement compared to my reg. 110.  i'm really trying to keep my weight up prior to ttc b/c i want to make sure i'm O'ing.

i was wondering...i know we need to be on diet for 6 wks & no breakfast is recommended.  what if 1st 2 wks (roughly from O to AF) i still ate a bit of breakfast w/in girl diet.  i think this would help me keep from losing too much weight too fast.  and then go hard core girl diet w/ no breakfast from AF until HPT.  does that make sense?

thanks!

Logically that makes sense to me and sounds like a good plan. Maybe Tamara can help us out on this one. We can't be the first ladies to be in this same boat.

I am so glad I am reading that there are people that are struggling keeping weight on and have boys.  I have always struggled gaining weight (5'7", 118 lbs), never lost AF though. I have 2 girls and would love to have a boy.  Hopefully I can finally gain weight by going on this diet.

 Good luck to you all!

oh, I wish I had trouble gaining weight, hehe...I eat very little to maintain, but I'm still working on losing these 5 lbs. that I've gained while trying to maintain, hehe...I just always like to be at a low weight, dont' feel comfortable any other way....I'm small and short and I would look like an umpa lumpa if I was even the slightest bit heavy, hehe...I'm supposed to be petite...so I just need to make sure I don't lose too much though 'cause I don't want to lose AF and my fertility.

But you are more than welcome to "join our group" hehe...we are all going through this together and can help eachother out...it's great to have suppor like thatt! :)

Hi Ladies, I know how hard the diet is and I totally agree with what everyone has said. I lost 10 lbs on the diet. My husband was worried about me and my friends started to tell me I needed to gain weight. Most of my pants won't even fit well anymore. I got really sick twice in the 2.5 months I was on the diet and I never get sick. But luckily I got a BFP this month. If I hadn't got it this month I was going to take a few months off because there was no way I could continue on it without a break. I highly recomend that smoothy in the cookbook and that yummy chicken pot pie. I suggest using the cookbook because just going off the tiers is way too hard to do for months and months. Good luck to everyone!

I ate a lot of pasta with no sauce or anything.. just would eat it.. I had to.. I had to try and GAIN weight to conceive !! I was underweight and trying the girl diet..

so yeah.. pasta was the key to me. I hated it.. but what else could I do..

if you are trying in may.. that is a little far away.. by the time you get to may your body will have gotten used to the diet and your cm may because back to normal on that diet. not good. ! I wouldn't start till around 3 months prior.. all you "really" need is about 8 weeks of good diet and supplements!

it is also why it is recommended to stop the diet after x number of months for a little bit so your body doesn't get to used to it!

GL!!!
