I'm not convinced my DD has colic, please chime in
|
|
I think it might just be gas, but today the doctor said that it sounds like she might be colicy as well as have gas. She is fussy during the day but can be consoled, she loves being held and bounced and loves to constantly be sucking on her pacifier. She isn't fussy at night really, she eats and sleeps for a few hours at a time.
If your child has/had colic what was the severity of it? Was it a really mild case or what? I didn't know colic could be anything but BAAAAD!

Ava would scream if we sat down in the evenings. I would have to walk around hours, the second I sat she would cry. She also had reflux, so Zantac helped.Text me if you want me to tell you more. Colic is so hard. My dr said he had dads come in and tell him they hated their colicy babies. It never got that extreme for us but he told me to reassure me that it's ok to be frustrated. I was balling in his office as well. Sending you hugs, if you can console her maybe she is just a fiesty little girl :) And it will get better. ((((HUGS))))

DS2 had a bad case of acid reflux, while he didn't projectile vomit, after he would drink(it sounded like gulping)his milk he would burp and burp and burp. All wet ones and you could hear it come back up in his throat and then he would just scream. We didn't know this is what was going on at first....tried so many different bottles and nipples then his appetite dropped off and all he wanted was his paci so we took him to dr and she ordered an upper gi because he wasn't gaining weight and we found out that reflux was the problem. He slept fine as long as you held him or he was in his papasan chair...I would have said he was an ok sleeper for a newborn. Anyway he was put on meds and it helped him alot.

BTW, another dr told me it was just gas and to give him gas drops..so glad we didn't continue to listen to him.

I am just so confused girls. I think her fussiness might just be caused by gas. I'm hoping the mylicon drops help. I was told to give them to her every four hours.
Danyel - Does Ava still have colic or has it gone away? how long did it last?

I bought some at Walgreens for DS2 but it didn't help-not sure if it didn't work was b/c it was reflux all along.

We got ours at Publix but I think they sell it at CVS and Wal-Greens. It worked VERY well for us I would use it again in a heartbeat. I know every baby is different though.

I was told at my ds's doc appt that he too has colic. I wasnt convinced and thought it may be gas since I can clearly hear and smell the gas . But he insist that it is colic. So I am going out tomorrow to buy the gripe water. Will let you know how it works.

Oh that's awful!! We've had 1 true colic baby and 2 very fussy babies. With all 3 it was milk/formula related, didn't always realize it at the time though...What is Adalyn eating, how often and how much?

She is having my breastmilk in a bottle during the day about 3 oz each feeding, 2.5 to 3 hours apart and then Similac formula at night, the same amount and time spread inbetween

Hmmm...Avery's eating 3-4 oz. breastmilk in a bottle every 2 hrs.,(36+ oz. per day) have you tried feeding her more frequently? That might just do the trick for ya! Also, can you tell if the bottles of breastmilk have both the hindmilk and foremilk in them? If there's not enough hindmilk then baby will be very fussy because foremilk is higher in lactose. I notice sometimes when I pump one side will have waaaay more hindmilk and 1 side is super watery, so I make sure to divide them up equally in her bottles. That way she's drinking what she'd actually be getting if I put her to the breast, if that makes sense.
Our colic baby DD1 had to get off Similac and switch to Nutramigen, and she was a completely different baby after that. Might want to try Nutramigen at night.... Or 1/2 bm 1/2 Nutramigen at night. Sometimes I do feed her every 2 hours if she is acting like she's hungry, but i'll try that for a day and see if that does the trick, also yes, I have noticed that some bottles of bm have a lot of foremilk in it so that could also be it. Thanks!! I'll make those adjustments and see if that helps.

My DD had colic from the time she was 4 weeks old. It would happen once or twice a day. Generally around early evening, she would be completely fine and then just her moving would set it off. She would scream, and I mean scream, and go completely stiff. The screaming could last anywhere from 5 mins to half an hour. I tried every wind drop on the market and nothing helped. Holding her would not always help as she would be so stiff. So I would lay her tummy down on my arm or lay her on the bed. It was horrible to see her in so much pain but nothing I did helped. It had to pass on its own. She grew out of it at about 4 months, just like the doctor said.
