So far, I have only looked on Toys R Us and will probably end up ordering from them, but I have three of them in mind and if any of you have these kitchens or an idea on them, I want them to be sturdy and last a few years through 2 kids b/c Santa is bringing it to both of them. Here are the three that I have narrowed down just based on price and seeing them online:

Kitchen No. 1: http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3058490

Kitchen No. 2  http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2316877

Kitchen No. 3 http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3155368

Like I said..my main thing is for them to be study and not that thin plastic stuff. TIA!

I like $2. I bought my kids one from there that has a kitchen on one side and an outdoor grill with a little table and seat on the other. They love it! Kitchens are so much fun, they can use their imagination.

We have number 2 and my girls love it last Christmas gift from Santa Happy Wink I just hate picking up play food all the time only downside. I would suggest buying extra play food w/o the kind in cardboard boxes it's just a waste. The food that does come with it is good quality, we ordered a bunch extra on eBay. We also got a stainless steel pot & pan set from Wal-Mart for $10.00 and it still looks nice. Great gift IMO Happy

And I just found it cheaper at Walmart and even better if I use Site to Store!

My daughter has 2 sets. We bought them used at garage sales!!!! She is 8 years old and still plays with them-she loves to play with her babydolls and her "house"!!  They are great! We have 2 of the plastic kind and it never tears up!!!

I saw that one! It is cute and on sale right now. I thought about a wooden one, but I do want plastic, just not the very thin cheap plastic. The ones that I posted are all a thicker plastic very similar to the one that I had when I was a kid that got passed around the family for a few years. So, I am pretty confident that it will hold up for a few years.

Agree  Gotcha! I didn't read the 'fine print' I just saw those sets and saw that you didn't want plastic, but I understand what you mean now. My SIL has one of the Step 2 sets for her kids. It seems very durable. The only pain in the butt aspect is that it takes batteries for all the 'bells & whistles' and that gets on my nerves. The wood is a better fit with our playroom in terms of color and overall style. The only thing I'd caution you on is to really look at the height dimensions of some of the plastic sets - a lot of them tend to be 'short' and you won't get very many years of use out of those. Get the biggest (in terms of counter height) set you can find and also the set w/the most storage capabilities so you have plenty of room to put all the play food and dishes out of sight... makes clean up time so much easier.
