I usually have an Arm's Reach Co-Sleeper for my babes.. til they are about 8 months for BFing at night.

But DS2 is sleeping in it now (as a playpen)... and we are living with the in laws for a few months (long story).. so we are short on space. I was thinking of getting a swing and putting it next to the bed for DD to sleep in (and also entertain her during the day.. without the boys crawling all over her)...

Is that really bad?  I've never had a nice swing with my boys, only the crappy travel ones.  I really want the Butterfly Papasan...

me personally I don't really see an issue with it... maybe thats just me?? I actually have that exact swing and it reclines back nicely or u can recline it more foward.. To me as long as the baby sleeps I'll probably let her sleep however (within reason) i mean they nap in them during the day when we're doing housework and such

We had that exact swing, the Butterfly Papasan, and DD did in fact sleep in it for several months.  Not all night long, but what we'd do is put her to sleep in it and then she was with us in our bed after she woke up for her first feeding.  I loved the swing - it was worth every penny!  (I got it online at Walmart for about $100 with 97 cent shipping).

Ah, that was my dream swing if Julian was a Juliet.  I don't see an issue either...

I did it for 4 months with DS3 in his papasan swing.  Embarrassed

It's the only place he would sleep.  I think it's totally fine.  He finally got used to his crib.  G/L!

I think that it will work great.  We had one like it and DD2 slept in it for naps.  She slept in her carseat at night for four months.  So whatever works!

I have the papasan swing like you want (I have the pink/brown one though) , I love it but I don't think I would feel safe with her sleeping in it.  That is just me though.  I am paranoid.  I don't see anything wrong with others doing it though.  A freinds son slept in his and they finally moved the seat part into his crib at night. lol

DS2 had to sleep in his swing due to reflux.  We did it for the first 4 months til he was too big.  I had those same papasan swings for my girls. They never slept in them though.  I just never needed too as we had an Amby bed for the baby that needed to be upright.  You might take a look at those.  You can find them on Craigslist or ebay used.  It was a lifesaver for me.  If you're going to use the swing, I'd pad the bottom a little more for sleep.  GL!

J slept in a swing for most of his first year. It was the only way he would sleep. I don't see a problem with it, but I would be a little concerned that your baby could get dependent on it. It might be good to try to have her learn to sleep lying down without motion sometimes too.

Ok.. good to know I'm not crazy! Who even knows if she'll sleep in it but I think that's my plan. I think the ambybaby would be too big, with how it swings...

Actually it doesn't swing much.  It bounces up and down mostly. It took up about the same amount of floor space and it's really lightweight and easy to move.  We kept one twin next to the bed in it.  It was great because when she fussed you could just rock her gently.  Her own movements would make it bounce a little.

I have that swing and I love it. My dd loves sleeping in hers. I have it near my bed and I do not see a problem with it.
