Anyone have any great ideas for a baby shower gift for friend with serious GD?

I agree about the gender neutral clothing. Something in white maybe. When I found out I was having DS, one of the only things that comforted me was a little white, soft, pj set that I know would have worked for a boy or a girl. Just knowing I had something that could belong to a girl really helped. I don't know. Maybe that sounds weird but it helped me.

I'm expecting boy #3 and one thing that I splurged on for myself was a diaper bag. It's the first designer one I ever owned and it's RED, NOT BLUE, lol this way, it's mine and it's for me and I'm going to look trendy with it on my arm. Don't buy clothes.... At this point, I have sooo much stuff that I could pass down and the handful of things that I want to replace, I don't want others people to pick out. I know, I'd also appreciate diapers too. You're such a good friend, I wish people around me were more thoughtful.

I've always thought the diaper cakes were cool. Everyone needs diapers, and creative ones are neat. Gender neutral things would be nice. Prenatal massage gift card. Or the jewelry with the birthstones is lovely :)

Skip the baby stuff all together and make her a PAMPER (herself) gift basket instead...
Ideas:
* Makeup, nail polish * Salon gift certificate * Clothes and/or gift cards for the mall * Luxurious bubble bath, lotions, soaps * A FREE BABYSITTING gift certificate (from you) * Maid service

HaHa! I just sent my mom back to the store to return an outfit that said thank heaven for little boys.... I got one as a gift for ds#1 and he never wore it.... then again if I had a girl she wouldn't wear anything that said "princess." I guess it's just not my style. I do like blue... I just don't want EVERYTHING blue. Everything was blue with #1 and #2 there was a lot f blue... This time around the nursery will be green and yellow... I'm just tired of ALL blue. I'll dress him in blue, but being that I am blue eyed and so is my husband, and 2 boys, I'm reasonably sure we will have another blue-eyed boy that will look beautiful in blue.... If I had a girl, to be honest, I'd buy blue dresses. I just don't want to look at another blue diaper bag, stroller or nursery again.

I really love very fashionable 'different' little boy clothes, take a lot of pleasure in dressing him really snazzily. He has purple shoes, red or pink tops and a really gorgeous quite bright green duffle coat! (not worn altogther before you picture some kid dressed like Joseph with his rainbow coat!) has lots in black and red etc. It reminds me that the 'boys clothes are crap' stereotype isn't entirely (althought partially) true, but it depends if your friend like this kind of thing. you could get her a little package containing something like that, and then some essentials too which are always appreciated, best of both worlds, then a liile personalised gift? like a baby record book? I have one for each of mine and they have ultrasound pics, locks of hair, hospital tags etc in there and its lovely to keep, i'm always looking through mine. I got DS an Anne Geddes one, tis quite gender neutral (heres linky to it from amazon.com): http://www.amazon.com/My-First-Five-Years-Flower/dp/0740753487/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1255342015&sr=8-7 its so cute, you should have a look and the pictures are gorgeous. christ i've written a lot!

I love these Yummy Mummy changing bags by Pink Lining. I'm from the UK so don't know if they are big in America but they are so gorgeous. For my first baby, a little boy, I didn't have GD but since I'm so girly my sister got me a beautiful cream and pink-striped Yummy Mummy bag. It also had a pink changing mat inside and loads of pockets for everything. I loved it but it's got a bit wrecked so I've already said to DP that I'm gonna treat myself to another Yummy Mummy bag this time round. They are around £50-£60.

Hello, I had ds3 16 wks ago, I didn't find out he was ds till he was born but what I struggled with was that people said oh you have everything you need so we won't get anything or you don't need anymore blue stuff (which made me want to scream you're right I want pink!)
So it is lovely to have something new and blue for the new baby - they shouldn't have to just have hand me downs (plenty of time for that!) you are such a lovely friend for suggesting the baby shower, third baby's should be just as special a time as the first 2. Go low key on the blue decorations though, too much blue does get you down!
A friend from work got me these odd socks http://www.unitedoddsocks.com/productdetails.php?id=102&type=baby which I love, I also appreciated people who got the same presents again, ie my best friend has bought a special blanket for each of mine and a family member bought a name plate for each of the boys for their room door
I bought a baby record book myself - the others have one
A group of mums I meet up with every week got me vouchers for finger print jewelry like this http://www.smallp.co.uk/products/pendant_on_a_chain_new.php# I'm going to get all 3 boys on one pendant at Christmas
The best best present I got from my dh was one of these http://www.scarlettjewellery.com/Slugs--Snails-Mojo-p-234.html because only Mums of boys can have them :-) that made me feel quite special, I wear it everyday
This isn't a trival question I'm sure if your friend knew you were doing this she would really appreciate it.

This would be my worst present to have, part of getting over my GD is accepting I have 3 boys and trying to find a place where I can embrace it - thats why I've suggested baby presents as I don't think you should do anything too different from the other baby showers
The bottom line is you know your friend and what she needs at this time, there are loads of good items x
