C section poll
|
|
I'm curious whether you were able to control the pain after your C section with something other than hard-core painkillers like morphine and vicadin (sp?). I really don't want to be all drowsy, nauseous, and out-of-it after the birth. Is there any way I can get away with advil or something like that? What painkillers did you use after your C section?

I took the vicodin in the hospital (and needed it!) but once I was dishcarged on day 3, I only took motrin.. I think I was taking a lot though.. 4 or 6 at a time? I can't remember what my Dr. ok'ed on that.
My pain/recovery for both my c-sections were very good.

I took percocet(sp?) all three times. It wasn't that the pain was unbearable... the pain killers just helped me move around without hurting.

What's the good stuff?
I got Narco (hydro)?.. still hurt finally cried and asked for my doctor.. and they gave me percaset (sp?)...it worked, but I switched to narco before I left, cause one of the nurses said I could get it prescribed?? It worked the best..and honestly when your in that much pain...it did NOT make loopy or anything. I took percasets w/ motrin (600 mg) every 4 hours...and felt good for atleast 2 hours the first two days after. However, while having the IV, they gave me toradoll (sp?)...it was by far better then all the meds..and non narcodic, I think?
So, I'm not sure if I did the strong stuff or not....is percaset strong?

I don't know much about percaset. But yeah, any of the narcotics. So these strong painkillers didn't make any of you all out of it, so that you weren't alert to spend time with your new babies?

God I might be addicted to percaset if it was over the counter! lol. Seriously that stuff takes away the pain! I only took one and could have taken two at a time but it makes me feel loop if I take two. I had some left over and took one the other night after the kids went to bed. I had a horrible headache and it was completely gone and I felt so comfy. lol. Good stuff!

I didn't take any hardcore painkiller after the initial morphine wore off, late in the day of my early-morning surgeries. They offered me Percocet, but I tend to have a bad reaction to serious painkillers, so they gave me an IV of Torodol instead, which the nurse described a strong Advil. I loved it because it didn't make me feel zoned-out like Perocet and didn't make me nauseous like morphine. I was on that for maybe a day, then switched to Advil, which I took for a few more days. I did this for both c-sections, and will do it again for my third this spring. HTH

After all three of my c/sec's, I took 600mg Ibuprofen and Percocet. I used both pretty steadily for the first 3 days, and then weaned off of them by 7 days or so.
During my last c/sec, I know I was given something pretty strong in my iv (morphine?), as I passed out (pretty much) right after the c/sec. But, other than that, I never felt loopy or tired w/ the meds I was taking - but it definitely helped w/ pain control.

They always hook me up to a drip with pethadine (I think) and it does nothing for me, so they take it out and I just have panadine forte supositories

Uhm, I'm not sure if I could have gotten by with just just the ibuprofen.. I had oxycodon and I was perscripted to take 2 every certain amount of hours, and if I didn't I was doubled over in pain. I got off asap though, so before a week I was completley done taking the medication (outside of once here and there during the nights...) and I'm thankful for that, because when my gallbladder attacks started up I used the oxycodon to try and help that..which it didn't, but would help me fall asleep sometimes.. I'm hoping I get that again too...I don't know if it's worse to recover from a planned c-section or an emergency one after over 14-16+ hours of induced labor... but if for any other reason I hope to have that medication again if the gallbladder attacks start up this time too, at least until we can get to a hospital to have it removed (if it gives me trouble again). The oxycodon didn't make me drowsy, nauseous, or out of it either.

By far,a scheduled c/sec. (and second c/sec) w/out labor, will be SO much easier to recover from.

Thank you, that's definitely a little reassuring... maybe I'll be able to get by without tons of pain meds then...I really do hate taking medication. :(

I never took any strong stuff. Although I probably should have. I'm weird with meds. Percocet makes me feel sleepy. Does squatola for my pain...LOL
I alternated tylenol and motrin and did fine. The pain was still there but it was managable. It wasn't a picnic by any means but I could tolorate it.
