Bennett always smells funny.  Not like a horrible odor, just kind of funky.  Usually about 8-12 hours after he's had a bath its in full swing.  It's his actual sweat, so his head and hair is usually where I notice it.  I just decided to write this because I am always wondering about it but DH kissed him on the head a few minutes ago and was like "You stink boy!"  It smells like a cross between breast milk and ball sweat- seriously.  DD never had this problem, I dont remember her ever 'needing' a bath, like having a smell.  Has anyone else ever had a "smelly baby"?

Does he spit up in his bed?  My kids had reflux and when they would spit up in their bed and sleep in it their heads would be stinky very quickly.

Hi, my chubby DD2 was stinky at times because of all her creases...not so much on the head from perspiring though...maybe too many layers? Wish i had more advice to offer!

Yes know what you mean my son smelt funny but we worked it out for us anyways! Dp was holding him laying down cuddling him and his wee head was snuggly in the arm pit area! It took a few weeks to work out ! Once it was really strong and smelt more like B O and we found the answer! Just to let you know dh dosn't suffer B O  I think it was a combo of that and the milk making the germs heat up and smell! HTHIdea

Well a girl on Yahoo answers was having the same problem with her baby daughter.  Where the baby's head would sweat a lot and the sweat smelled weird.  Someone on there said it could be a sign of a medical problem like diabetes.  I think Im going to ask his doctor.  He doesnt spit up much or have nasty neck rolls.  Its weird smelling fresh sweat.  Ususally however he lays, like whatever part of his head he is on is where it sweats most or when he is in his carseat it is the back of his head.  Super funky.  The doctor will probably think Im nuts.  What else smells like ball sweat, so I dont have to say that?  Happy LMAO

Happy ROFL  I don't know!  I think BO could suffice.  I think it probably is a good idea to bring it up with the doc if it really seems to be coming from his pores.  If he's BF, it could be diet related.  Do you eat a lot of garlic, cilantro etc. that might be coming through his system?

My DS#3 had a wierd smell like that. I found a spot behind his ear that was almost like a quarter size hole. I couldn't reach it when I would wash behind his ear with a wash cloth. It had yucky goo all in it. Once I found it, I would take q tips and clean it out and the smell went away. I think you should tell the dr it smells like ball sweat. Maybe he needs a good laugh too. Happy ROFL

My baby is a smelly baby too!

My other two did not smell like this either.

Mine is an EXTREME sweater!!  I've actually been worried cause he sweats so bad.  Even his feet sweat which I didn't think babies feet did.  I will bathe him, and then the next time he eats his head will break out in sweat beads and the smell is back.

The smell isn't teenage boy stink, thank goodness, but he's just not the sweet smelling baby that most people would expect him to be.  LOL  In fact, I'm really worried about when he IS a teenage boy!!  Whew, I don't know if I should let him sign up for sports then. LOL

I'm actually probably gonna mention it to my doc the next time I go just to "be sure" it's not something I should worry about.

ETA:   I also wanted to say that we co-sleep, and the place where his head lays on my bed will stink so bad that my other kids actually complain!  I am always Lysoling the area trying to tone it down, but every night it is the same.  He will wake up and the spot under his head is so big and wet it looks like he's wet the bed, but it's the sweat from his head.

Yes, DS2 had this problem, and it wasn't until he could be sitting up and not laying on his head or have his head against something that it stopped. Even now my son is a sweaty kid. We always dress him lightly, he doesn't really get cold. But when he was a baby even his carseat needed regular washings, till I figured out (too) that the material on his carseat didn't breathe at all. And when you live in Florida, sometimes thats not such a good thing!
