We'll be doing cycle 3 later this year. My first 2 were successful in the fact we got preggers, but something is preventing them from growing. We'll be running more tests to get to the cause of the problem, so praying 3rd time will be a charm. Pgd for boys both times, now it seems our boys are stronger to transfer, and we tend to get more of them (see my other thread regarding maca root) I am going to journal my situation in hopes I can help someone else.

Hi again, I did ICSI as it was my docs decision to do that, just less chance of PGD results being wrong (if left to naturally fertilise other sperms' DNA can be left on the egg and contaminate the PGD results-he just wanted to be safe and certain). No, ICSI didn't increase my boy embies, C1-5 girls vs 2 boys, C2 3 girls vs 1 boy. I cycled at home in Australia (due to medical reasons), there is no multi cycle packages here. At the time of my BFP cycle I had just turned 31.

Thank you ladies!! Mumof3girls, I see that you did ICSI as well, did that increase your numbers of boy embryos? Did you get a 3-cycle pkg and if so did you have to pay all over again for #4? Where did you cycle? How old are you (I am 34)? Thanks in advance!!

I've read the same thing JackiesHope said, generally within 3 full cycles (not including FET's) you would have a baby to take home, but that's based on normal IVF not gender selection BUT, you would hope that we have a slightly better chance of getting good embies than say someone having trouble ttc and NEEDING to do IVF. I based my decision to go forth with IVF/PGD on needing 3 full cycles, but it really is 1 step at a time and see how you go.

I would say the average is 3 tries because that's how many tries most IVF/PGD clinics will give you in their shared risk plans. I doubt clinics lose money on these so they must have good success within 3.

With gender selection IVF its probably slightly higher because you're eliminating 1/2 of the embryos right from the start. Maybe 4 tries? I know Dr Lin offers shared risk for gender selection IVF and you get most of the $ back after 3 tries (but PGD and meds are non-refundable)

How many tries does it take on average for IVF/PGD success (live birth, not BFP)? I know there are OHW's and those who try 6, 7, and 8 times and never get a BFP, but what is the amount of tries on average for a live birth? For a BFP?
